It was not long after the accident, perhaps four or five months, and I was particularly nervous about Bitchy driving here and there. I knew I had to let her, but our hearts were still aching with loss.
Then one night I had a dream. Bitchy was getting into a car with Robbie, and I was in the background yelling, “No, NO, NO – you CAN’T ride with him!!” I was frantic and screaming.
Robbie turned, and gave me a piercing, PIERCING look in the eye, seemed to float toward me and said softly,
“Don’t worry. I will never let anything happen to her.” And with a smile, they drove away.
I sat BOLT upright in bed. At that moment, I knew that my sister’s dear boy would be wrapping his arms around her and keeping her safe.
Now where is that M. Night Shyamalan? We still need to chat.
My heart breaks over the loss that your family suffered. I hope it's comforting to you to know that he is watching out for Bitchy and all of you.

My dad is watching over my grandaughter. She dreams of him playing ball, dolls, games etc. with her. She can describe him perfectly (calls her "honey girl" like he did my daughter), and she never met him.... he passed away before she was even born.
Angels? Yes.
I lost a young cousin a number of years ago in a freak accident at an amusement park. A patron walking by a fountain put out his hand to splash the water and the next minute he was floating face down. A friend, seeing his buddy drowning, dove in to save him. My 19-year-old cousin, who worked security for the park, then jumped in to rescue both of them.
ReplyDeleteIt turned out the motor in the fountain had shorted out and electrified the water. Darrell and the first victim both died; the second guy, for reasons only the universe understands, was okay.
Losing kids at that age, when they're right on the cusp of adulthood, when your long years of investment are about to reap their reward, is a terrible thing. It goes against the natural order that says parents will die first.
What a gift to know that someone from beyond this plane is watching over your daughter.

ReplyDeleteI lost my brother in a train accident when he was 11 and I was 9I know that he is watching over all of his family down here. I feel his warmth around me all the time.
In 1994 my middle son hung between life and death after a skateboard accident. He had such severe swelling tohis brain . The Dr's had done all that was medically possible and they all but said that it was up to God .
The nurse noticed a visitor to my son'sbed and asked us the next morning if we might know of anyone visiting in the middle of the night? We never knew who that figure was...or did me?
Deep down I just know that the figure was one of his angels...maybe even my brother.
M. Night....you were right all the time!

I truely believe in Guardian Angels though, talk to my mom and husband all the time. They send help my way, I'm sure of it.
On a different note, for those of us who went to a catholic grade school, remember when you first learned about guardian angels? And for about a month after, did all of you make room for them on your chair when you sat down?
I think Bitchy is making room for hers.

ReplyDeleteWe just have to open up and pay attention. They do communicate sometimes - we just have to figure out that it's them!
Example: I was crying over the loss of my Dad one evening recently (he's been gone since 1975). I turned on the TV and the first thing I see is an old friend of his talking about the 'good old days' and telling some of their funny adventures!
Why did I turn on the TV? Why was that show on? I had no idea it had even been made. THAT was my Dad letting me know to stop crying and to remember the fun stuff!
This is only about the millionth time this has happened with various relatives and friends.
Wish they'd give me the winning lottery numbers!!!

So hard for a mother to lose a child.

ReplyDeleteI truly believe in this! I constantly dream of my dead parents and even though they don't know my kids I do feel that somehow they are watching over them. I remember losing my favorite cousin to cystic fibrosis and getting the call. We were the same age and had so much fun growing up, no matter what age, when someone passes it is so difficult for those that have been left behind.
