Is it really true????

Dear Tightwad: (Ooops, I mean The BLESSED One.)

You know that sound I heard this morning when we were talking? I think it might have been a laugh: A real, honest to God BELLY laugh coming out of your mouth.

I haven’t heard that sound in oh, let’s see, about ELEVEN months now. That’s about how long it’s been since you’ve been laid off.

When I saw your truck drive out of the driveway on Thursday, I danced. I threw my arms in the air, thanked the LORD, and I danced.

I wasn't sure that it would really happen- your old company has been promising for months that you’d get called back. When Obama signed the stimulus package (I wish he would have SENT us a package…) we hoped it would get you back out on those bridges.

Truth be told, I’m a little tired of Ramen noodles, cereal, spaghetti with fake meat sauce, hot dogs, spending every *$2& day together, having the girls steal sweet and low packets from Starbucks and not answering the telephone. However, I have to say that the packages from Wishbone and Stouffers sure helped. (God works in mysterious ways, that's for sure...) (Oh, and those statistics about marriages breaking up over money problems? Now I totally get it. )

And hey, about the fact that you’ll be working 5 miles from your hunting camp, and living there during the week?????

I’ll try not to cry about it.

Oh that's sweet relief.

That whole bit about love conquering all?
It's great. Really great. But truly tested when the purse strings are fraying.

Here's a smile for all of you!

All I can say is no one really "gets" what is going on in our country right now. I'm reading between "your" lines and feeling really, really good. I'm watching the new Margret Cho show on Showtime. She is a fav of mine, always make me laugh. I hope to God with this little change in your life you are sleeping better at night. You deserve a break.

Chocolate Covered Daydreams said...

I'm rejoicing with you. I got laid off...although it's not really laid off because I seriously doubt they'll invite me back with the financial crisis being what it is. It's a blessing to think that the Blessed One is back at work. It does something for us when we're feeling worthy and valuable. I'm so very happy for him and for you.

Wahey, way to go ... and to top it all off you get a few days peace a week. Bonus!! ;0)

Yeah for you both!

I've sunk to a new low. When my son comes back over here from his dad's house, I have him bring a bar of soap or a box of mac n cheese, or a can of soup. We ran out of ramen long ago. I know exactly the joy of money coming in.

Sigh.

Hope Tightwad laughs more from now on and I hope your smile is present more often.

I'm happy for you. Unemployment sucks. My daughter has been working at her new job now for 2 weeks and is still waiting for her 4 week unemployment check. Talk about poor. My dad used to say it is a depression anytime you are out of work. Dad was right.

But how did you get him a job where he's gone through the week??? Wow. God is blessing you for sticking it out together those 11 months, huh?

What doesn't kill you, makes you stronger...they say. You certainly have been tested and it looks like you passed with an A+. Still married, still alive, still have your humor.

So now you'll be going from having him around all the time, to only on the weekends? Sounds heavenly to me.

The Mother said...

Oh, congrats, congrats, congrats.

Especially about getting hubby out of the house.

buffalodick said...

As a male, I understand...- Both of your joy in being apart! I am pretty sure more strain is caused in a long term marriage from financial issues than anything else. Guys usually don't worry enough about money (from the practicality perspective) than women.. Women generally fear poverty, but actually deal and adjust to it quicker than men. When I was first married (at age 20!), I had pretty much nothing, but I still had all a guy 20 yrs. old needed. I watched my mom, and to a degree, my wife worry about stuff that never came to happen. Your guts do enough damage to you without worrying about stuff that does, or does not come along. At one level, it will always be about the money. At another level, it doesn't matter at all- on the things you value, and believe in... Life does find a way to survive, and thrive.
This is what happens to me when I go to our cabin in the woods and get a moment to think! I turn into a Goddam Zen Fertilizer.... Sorry!

Oh I'm sooo happy for you guys! I know how very stressful that must have been for you guys. Thank the Lord!

If you're anything like me, you'll start bitching in about 1 week - i think that is the accepted grace period.

Way to go to Tightwad! My hubby was laid off also, luckly he got the call to go back before we had to hide all the sharp objects!

Desert Songbird said...

Joyous news! I know firsthand the agony of an unemployed husband; my husband has been laid off SEVEN times. That's the fate of engineers in technology. Ah well. One time was out of work for 16 months. He's also worked out-of-state twice, and out of town (but in state) once. It's tough, but you get through it with faith and laughter. After all these years, we're still together, in spite of one income, no income, and chronic illness. Love conquers all, I guess. That and a good stiff drink.

Alix said...

Put away the vodka, and break out the champagne!

WeaselMomma said...

I would very much like to say that you forgot to move me on your blogroll, but I don't believe I was there in the first place.
Can't wait to meet you this weekend. Please don't call the cops, I'm harmless.

Hip hip hooray!

Julie B. said...

Oh good for him! (and for you, for living through it) Damn, I've been laid off for almost a year too, where the hell is my Stouffer's package? Just because I have like 3 followers compared to your 3000, I wouldn't be a good reviewer?

Semi-Slacker Mom said...

Good. Now we can get the top shelf Vodka!

Fragrant Liar said...

All right! Congrats, Tightwad! That is so awesome. I'm sure that smile extended to you too. What a relief and now the promise of a "better" life is back, right? I have been there, and it's so nice to be wanted and needed and pulling your own weight. Exciting news.

Especially about that hunting camp, eh? :)
