Lilly Kelly's. Hands down.
However, the Dorothy shoes run a close second.
My advice to moms? Please let them wear what they want. It might be the last time they can come to school feeling and looking like a million bucks- and NOT be judged.
Plus, it warms the heart of the teacher. :-)
Aw, love the dorothy shoes! Kindergartners are so adorable. :)
ReplyDeletePink shoes! My favorites..... do they come in big girl sizes?
ReplyDeleteYes, without a doubt those are the best kindergarten shoes every, hands down.
ReplyDeleteOr feet down.
Whatever.
I want Lilly Kelly's shoes..do you think they have them in Ladies size 7?
ReplyDeleteThose are fierce!
Peace - Rene
Have a great year!
How cute are they :-)
ReplyDeleteI love when kids dress themselves! Such a sense of style!
ReplyDeleteDear RETARDO, you posted the same picture twice just because I said nungee.
ReplyDeleteOnce an ex bf of mine said his little girl wanted to wear her princess outfit to school and what should he do? I said LET HER. And he did.
makes me wish i had a girl (briefly!)
ReplyDeleteWell, I hope they are having fun. I remember my son wearing stuff that drove me up the wall when he was a kid. Looking back now, it was pretty mild.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you have so much entertainment. Bwhaahahahahah. Big hug. :)
Ah. . . a teacher who let's them be who they are. . . and they DO feel like a million bucks without judgement.
ReplyDeleteI have a friend whose daughter wore her "FOZ" shoes until they no longer fit. she wore them with every outfit, everyday, everywhere.
She thought they came from The Wizard of Foz. I'll never forget those ruby slippers, blond hair and blue eyes. That three year old KNEW who she was and those shoes took her everywhere.
You are the best teacher ever!
Kindergartners rock.
ReplyDeleteWell, if those aren't just the cutest ever! I don't think I could choose berween the two of them. They both simply ROCK!
ReplyDeleteYou are such an insightful teacher! Your little kids are lucky to have you, and awesome shoes!!
ReplyDeleteMy daughter wore her Lilly Kellys for her first day of kinder today. (Love that you can throw them in the wash)
ReplyDeleteTogether with a tie-die dress. AND sparkly hoodie. She looked like a clown but felt like a million bucks. LOL.
Where can I get a pair just like Lilly Kelly's? Thay are awesome.
ReplyDeleteI would wear either of those in a heartbeat! Aren't we all just little girls at heart? Even the boys are jealous.
ReplyDeleteAhhh... As a mom who let's her girls wear whatever they want that just makes me go ahhh.
ReplyDelete-->Little Kelly is Rockin' those shoes!
ReplyDeleteI'm gonna be the jerk who judges and say that girl #2's feet are gargantuan.
ReplyDeleteThat comment was just for fun. But seriously, amen to the freedom of self-expressiveness!
ReplyDeleteThose are some SERIOUS sparkly Kindergarten shoes. Lawsy!
ReplyDeleteOh would I have lusted after a hand-me-down pair of Lelli Kelly's in my youth... pretty spendy for shoes that get grown out of in a couple of months. But sparkly is the best.
ReplyDeleteI love your attitude about kids outfits too, VM.
awwww.
ReplyDeleteHappy Fifty...I tried to link you to Molly Shannon as Sally O'Mally but couldn't find it on utube.
xo
I always choose my battles and one I figured I could almost always afford to lose - or not fight - was clothing. Therefore I had a 'Dorothy' for almost 3 years. She had 3 blue gingham dresses, blue socks, and the requisite ruby slippers. She wore this every day. And braids. I was sure to tell the teachers that she did indeed have multiple dresses and wasn't wearing the same one to school each day. I couldn't tell you how many pairs of ruby slippers we went through as she grew. Winter was a bitch because, as everyone knows, "DOROTHY DOESN'T WEAR TIGHTS!!!!!" I assured her that in the winter she did, but it was a tough sell. I had to get the flesh colored tights that look like hose. She didn't love them, but would acquiesce to wear them.
ReplyDeleteI do not have a single regret about this.
Great advice....my daughters love for her ruby red shoes won't be so warmly appreciated for her friends in Grade 3. Sigh. They grow up too fast!
ReplyDeleteI love both pairs of shoes (and the skirt/dress with the Dorothy shoes!). In kindergarten my nephew wore two belts to school. It became an issue at bathroom time.
ReplyDeleteI wore those exact shoes to school and got my ass kicked.
ReplyDeleteI want some fun shoes. And not just for Halloween.
ReplyDeleteSo cute! I agree. I let my kiddos dress themselves and they do come up with some wild outfits that they love.
ReplyDeleteI'd wear either of those with a big smile. All in good fun.
ReplyDeleteYou're so right! Wish we all had the confidence of kindergartners. Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI love the Lelli Kelly shoes but my daughter tears up some shoes and I surely can't afford them. You know being military and all. Broke. :o)
ReplyDeleteLOVE it! :) My big girl (all of second grade!) loves her crocs. and sneakers. Makes me cry. Although in kindergarten she wanted to wear pink cowboy boots all the time, with everything.
ReplyDeleteThose shoes would match perfectly with the tiara my daughter wears to preschool every day!
ReplyDeleteadorable
ReplyDeletehow did my kids end up in your school?
ReplyDeleteSo cute!
ReplyDeleteAwwwwwww...we had Dorothy Shoes, too, once upon a time. And a blue-and-white gingham dress, and a red hairbow. Gosh, I miss those days sometimes!
ReplyDeleteI think if I had those pink shoes, I might be happier about the first day of school...
ReplyDeleteI think my day would be a great deal more productive with those kicky pink shoes to float around on! So adorable, and your idea is perfect.
ReplyDeleteI second that - let them enjoy!
ReplyDeleteCreativity and innocence is a gift they take away with social pressure... So wonderful, yet no one gets to keep it.. Bittersweet, is an aquired taste..
ReplyDeleteMy 2 year old have silver sequinned high top sneakers. They look like moon boots and she loves them.
ReplyDeleteEveryone's shoes should have sequins or glitter on them. All the time. Life's too short not to have sparkly shoes.
That child's name is Lilly Kelly? That's so cute, I could just spit.
ReplyDeleteThe shoes are also adorable.
My five year old has Lelli Kelli's! That company really saw us suckers coming. $85 a pair. Glad they're good for entertaining the teachers!
ReplyDeleteI did it. I taught my first day of first grade. I wasn't too smart about my shoes...I picked yellow high heals. The toes were sorry by noon...I wish I had some magic ruby slippers to change into...or pink bedazzled ones. That was a highlight for the kids today - showing me all their new shoes. I love my little kiddos. But I'm really*really*really tired. Have a great year!
ReplyDeleteI love those shoes! I am a firm believe that we only live once so why not have fun.
ReplyDeleteTotally needed to see that. Reinforced my belief that my children can try to dress themselves on their own and that I can support the crazy combination.
ReplyDeleteThank you I needed this after a real tough week,
Cheers,
Anita
I love those shoes. Both pair. Do they come in my size? Huh? Do they?
ReplyDeleteAlthough my princess is only three, she already has a favorite pair of shoes! Pink cowgirl boots... they go with everything, you know?! ;)
ReplyDeleteBoys too, my son has a pair of flip flops that (wait, I should say had) received several treatments from the duct tape doctor before, well, we don't like to talk about it.
I wonder if they make those in a Size 9.
ReplyDeleteSugarplum consistently gave her teachers vertigo. I was quite proud of her.
ReplyDeleteI wish we could all put on a pair of cute shoes and feel better.
ReplyDeleteI've seen the LK's at Nordstrom. Eleanor would love them - but I think I'll let a grandma make that purchase. The Dorothy shoes are a classic - and a much more frugal buy at Target. I do wonder if Eleanor will insist on sparkley shoes...she insisted on a pair of silver mary janes for the fall/winter/spring of 08/09. I had to buy several pairs of those damn shoes... She literally wore them with everything and ONLY them.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great teacher to promote individuality!! I also think it will build self esteem and a feeling of pride! Love those shoes, BOTH pairs!!!
ReplyDeleteWonder if the little girl wearing the ruby slippers wore them because she wanted an "out", in case it was a bad day. . .run to the bathroom. . .click three times. . ."there's no place like recess". . . "there's no place like recess". . . "there's no place like recess"
Her jeans ain't bad either!
ReplyDeleteOur school secretary, (AKA the most important person at the school)'s daughter was in kinder at our school. She dressed herself and her mom was one of those special moms who could just give it over!!!
Anyway she got herself up every day in the most excellently odd outfits!
I called her Ruby Tuesday.
Who is gonna hang a name on her!
Great kid!
She's in high school now.
It happens fast.
Man. The love of shoes starts early for us huh?!
ReplyDeleteHAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!!!!
ReplyDeletexo
SO stinkin cute
ReplyDeleteTruer words never spoken: Let 'em wear them!!
ReplyDeleteDo they make Lilly Kelly's for us? How cute are those?!!!
ReplyDeleteThat was so my girl back in the day. I gave birth to a shoe whore!
ReplyDeleteHey! Stop by my place. I left something for you!
ReplyDeleteYou forgot to mention that it was a little boy wearing the Dorothy shoes.
ReplyDeleteadorable shoes and great advice!
ReplyDeleteAwww I love both of those! And I love your advice!
ReplyDeleteThose Lilly Kelly shoes are killing me.
ReplyDeleteAnd I happen to have a little Dorothy running around who owns a pair of those ruby slippers.
Those first shoes are the cutest ever!
ReplyDeleteI remember my son's kindergarten teacher telling us moms not to worry if our kids wanted to wear the same thing every day, that she knew it was them, not us. At the time that made me feel so understood.
You are obviously as great a teacher as she was. And 20 years from now your kids' moms, like me, will remember you with great fondness!
oh darn. signed in as hubby (dennis) again.
ReplyDeleteHe would never leave a comment about pretty girl shoes.
Ha!!! I also had a Dorthy...dress, shoes, braids, basket and a stuffed Toto. Now? She rolls her eyes and sighs when I pull her Dorthy pics out...they grow up TOO fast!
ReplyDeleteI love that you love the simple things about kids. It makes me feel better about sending my kids to school each day. I hope their teachers get a kick out of simple things like the shoes they choose to wear.
ReplyDeleteThey are both so adorable and I agree with you, let them wear what they want.
ReplyDeleteFrankly, I can't pass children's shoes in a store without stopping and "ooohing" and "ahhhhing'; they just didn't make all those wonderful little shoes when my kids were young.
I started wearing shoes for fun and not "black funeral shoes" to work about 2 years ago (hmm about the time I got divorced...) Some days when the client is whining and the partners are complaining about billable hours and I can't find the right argument for my brief, I look at my awesome shoes, smile and know that it will all work out. Who knew I just needed to think like a kinderkid??
ReplyDeleteYou're right.
ReplyDeleteWho cares what they wear as long as they wear something and it is clean.
Oh, I am so gonna invest in a pair of sparkly lavender ones that say Sprite on the buckle! In my size!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE 'EM!
ReplyDeleteMy dad took me shopping once and let me buy a pair of blue suede laceups with a heel. Don't judge it was the 70's. They were the shit!
Perfectly awesome shoes!
ReplyDeleteI've always said good shoes make a better day:) very cute:)
ReplyDeleteThose first shoes are the cutest things EVER. I tried to buy my daughter a pair and she refused, saying they were too fancy. WTF? I want them!!
ReplyDeleteAdorable!! Looks like something Junie B. would wear... I'm trying to remember the rules of self-dressing 4 & 5 year olds as my 3rd is in preschool now...self-expression & so forth.
ReplyDeleteThanks for always bringing a smile!
those are soooo cute! I would wear a pair, minus the strap. Yes, kinders always get dressed so cute for their first day.
ReplyDeleteMy Emily had the Dorothy shoes. Olivia's teachers will be in for a treat because she dresses up every day. :) Good luck his week.
ReplyDeleteLittle girl shoes rock my world. Reminds me of my daughter's K teacher who told my husband one day (on the ONE day he like, EV-UH picked her up from school), "Wow, you know, we have NEVER seen a little girl with SO many pairs of shoes!"
ReplyDeleteNaturally, he came home and inspected her closet and told me all about it.
Kindergarten teachers aren't supposed to break the women's code!!
I love this. My (ahem) ex never would let Supergirl go to school in her awesomeness without a big drama over it. She and I thought she looked great. Now she's in 3rd grade, and WAY too self conscious. DO let them wear what they want. Really. Don't suck as a parent.
ReplyDeletelove it. kids at that age are amazing...the judging has not set in yet, too true.
ReplyDeleteaw, so cute. unfortunately (or fortunately?) my boys could care less what they wear. athletic pants and a tee and their good to go.
ReplyDeleteOh sure, the Judy Garland's look cute, but do you have any idea how long it takes to vacuum up those damn glitter flakes as they fall off all day long!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeletetoo cute. I love how kids wear whatever they want and never worry about what other people will think.
ReplyDeleteI wore a tutu and cowboy boots every single day in kindergarden!
Great advice! I love those ruby slippers but I doubt I could wear them to work without being made fun of!
ReplyDeleteI was just thinking today that I needed to get the Pixie another pair of red shoes. She ran her last ones into the ground.
ReplyDeleteGo on with your bad selves, girls!
Love those shoes. and Please, please, please, let them wear what they want.
ReplyDeleteThere's no place like Payless...there's no place like Payless...
ReplyDeleteKnow what I love about that second picture? I could swear those are the Wicked Witch of the West's feet right in front of Dorothy's.
My first grader wears uniforms. The fun shoes are the only cool thing we get to buy every year!
ReplyDeleteThe shoes make the outfit, you know. :)
ReplyDeleteMy "little" girl is in grade 8 this year. And her favorite shoes so far are BLUE SEQUINED CONVERSE RUNNERS. She LOVES them...and apparently so do some of her friends who are now sporting them - in either blue, pink or black.
ReplyDeleteAfter dropping our oldest daughter off at college for her freshman year (sob!) and seeing how some of the people were dressed, I just shook my head. But then, I thought of the pink shoes and the Dorothy shoes and said, "well, to each their own" then checked all the clothes my daughter brought to school!
ReplyDeleteMy baby girl started fouth grade today . . . Can't believe it. *SNIFF*
ReplyDeleteShe had the Lelli Kelly's in green a few years back. She LOVED those shoes. (The only way I bought them was 'cuz I found them at Marshalls, so she was a bit disappointed when I wouldn't get her another pair for $80 . . .)
I even let my son wear shoes like this! He loves them...
ReplyDeleteThat damned Lily Kelly jingle is so catchy my 4yo SON has actually asked me for a pair.
ReplyDeleteI debated it - briefly - for the reason you note but quickly decided he could too easily get a beat down on the playground for wearing pink shoes to school.
My daughter has *both* pairs of those shoes! She is four and I absolutely let her dress (most) any way she wants for the exact reason you mention: there is so little time to be yourself with no one else commenting on your choices! :) Have a great school year!
ReplyDeleteAWWWWWWWW sweet adorable shoes my goodness! love love love! =) (p.s) first giveaway on my blog)
ReplyDeleteIt's people like you that instill hope in my heart for the public school system.
ReplyDeleteMy son has worn a polo shirt to kindergarten every single day since it started in July. Best part? He's worn the collar popped every time. I'm having flashbacks...
I never thought about it like that! Thanks for the sage advice.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the advice. I was actually going to ask you that question as I gazed at those bow stockings with the candy dress. Katie (4yo) is just getting into dressing herself. I took personal pride in being told at parent-teacher conf last year that her teacher loved to check the tags of her clothes to see where I got them because she was always so beautifully dressed...now I am just happy for her to GET dressed. Having many, many, many "itching" issues. I was curious if the teacher's looked down on the parents whose kids dress themselves with little intervention.
ReplyDeleteOh, now that is precious. Good advice too.
ReplyDeleteOh! If you wanna see some really c-u-t-e shoes, you need to go to
ReplyDeletehttp://www.miajoie.blogspot.com/
She makes them herself! AND she sells them! (And, NO, I do not make any kickback from telling anyone about them! I just think they are A-Dorable!)
Sorry, but they are only for little ones...
Maybe I could shrink my feet somehow...?
But go have a look! You'll love them too!
=-)

ReplyDeleteMy kindergarten daughter has those same Dorothy shoes, but I LOVE the pink ones. Tomorrow is her first "Causal Day" at her school, so I'll keep your advice in mind...
ReplyDeleteI am LOVING your blog.
ReplyDeleteI could read forever.
This point is brilliant and these shoes are adorable.
I'd love a pair of LK's but I'd be judged for sure.
I think my son has those same pink shoes. Maybe even the embroidered jeans as well.
ReplyDeleteI need a martini, in a bad way.

They seem more respectful and calm at time unless being attack on their comments. I independent voters and took advantage of early voting. The ex Trump campaign manager Corey should tone down his opinion and asked himself why he was no longer Trump campaign manager.
