The Cashier position in available.

Remember when Bitchy told me she wanted to switch her major from Chemistry to Nutrition, and I tried to talk her out of it? Well, here’s how today’s conversation went:

Me: “Mrs. D told me Friday that her son went to the career counselors at Oregon State, and not only did they guide him to major he loved, they told him the salaries of the jobs he was interested in. So, before you make any changes, you should check on that. You know, you being a princess and all.”

Bitchy: “Yeah, I think I will. I don’t want ANY job unless it’s at least three digits.”

Thinking for a minute…."Uh, you know, I might only teach kindergarten, but I’m pretty sure that if you’re happy with three digits, you could quit Oregon State right now and find your dream job.”

“NO, NO, NO!!! I mean SIX DIGITS!! SIX DIGITS!! You KNOW what I meant.”

Me, laughing uncontrollably, “Too late!! You said it!!”

“Damn. That’s going on the blog, isn’t it?”

“ You're *#@& right it is…”

(It's a repost from the "lost files". If you want an update on Sassy it's here...)

  2. Bitchy should really go for the six figure so she can support you when your are ready to retire! Isn't that what our children are for? (Or, at least that's what my mom said.)
At least Bitchy's thinking about what she really wants to do!

  7. I love it! And the fact they know when they are about to become a blog post!

  8. You should keep a running tally of how many times one of the family has said some version of "This is going on the blog"!

  9. At least on a 3-digit salary she shouldn't have to pay any taxes. That's a plus.

  10. We should all be happy with 3 digits :)Hard to eat on that though.

  11. I'm looking forward to when my boys understand that what they do will be going on the blog.

  12. She could work at a lumber mill in OREGON and lose as many digits as she likes.

  13. By the time she gets to that point, six digit salaries will probably seem like three!

    Love Bitchy's picture.

  14. At least she's not trying to be a CPA with those mad number skilz she has, there. LOL

  15. It's true that many young people think you can support yourself on 10 or 12 dollars an hour pay. They will be surprised shortly!

  16. Bitchy's got the right mentality. Hey at least she didn't say, don't worry - I'll marry for money.

Because when you earn 3 figures, you kind of have to.

  19. Hoping she'll compromise and go for what she loves, not the almighty digits.

  24. Har Har!!!!! Tell her that she can be a 40 yr old woman with a job in the 3 digits like me. Not so awesome.

  25. Did she mean three digits an hour?
    That would be okay.

  26. I'm so glad my mom can't work a computer! Oh the stories she could tell . . . I'm not exactly the sharpest crayon in the tool shed. ;)

  27. Funny how kids have an end goal in mind with no plan of how to get there. In fact, they have no understanding of the necessary middle steps like: work at a series of unfulfilling lower wage jobs until you slowly accumlate enough debt to justify a higher salary.

I used to think I's consider myself a failure if I was still working at 40. I'm three years past that now and looking at working into the grave.

  30. I didn't even notice until you pointed it out. When I read her quote my brain just filled in the three extra 0s. (And I took math for fun in college -it was too long ago, I guess!)

My boys don't even think about what they want to be when they grow up, but their little sister wants to be a movie star or someone who goes around on a plane to get money for orphanages.

  33. I was teaching adult ed once and a student asked if I'd help him with his taxes. I said I'd help if I could, but I'm not an accountant. He brought them in, along with all of his info. Then he proudly stated, all puffed up like a peacock, "yeah. I made a grand last year."

    Oh, sweetie...
