I do cry once in a while...only a little...

I dreamed of my mother last night.

It was an odd dream, it had no rhyme nor reason. My mother was living in an unfamiliar house- one filled with antiques and paintings that were made by us - her children. I watched her intently as she spoke to me - almost as if we were neighbors, as if we haven’t been separated by space, time and that nasty inconvenient tiny matter of her death.

Our conversation was insignificant – I can’t even remember what it was. I DO remember that I had an intense feeling that I wanted to hold on to her and never let her go. I knew in my heart she was dead. I watched her intently as she spoke, and joined her in laughing at something I can’t remember.

I’m not sure what this dream signifies. All I know is that for a few brief moments in the dark recesses of the night, I was wrapped in her love.

And it felt good.

  1. Doesn't matter what it meant, only what you felt.

And I still think your mom's hot.

  2. I'm glad you were able to laugh in your dream, and to feel her love. I'm sure that's exactly what she intended.

I've never had a dream like this. Sometimes I wish I would. About my grandpa. My friend who died in a horrible car crash... others I've lost and miss so much.

Thanks for sharing. Keep feeling her love. It is always there for you.

  4. Ah, I'm so happy for you that you had a visit from your Mom. It's been 4 years, and my mom hasn't appeared in my dreams yet. Not sure why.

    Beautiful image--being wrapped in love.

  5. I dream like that about my Dad every now and then. In my dreams I always get a big hug from him. Those Dreams always seem to come right when they are most needed.

With all that you and your family have been going through lately, you probably needed a good *hug* from your Mom and she came into your dream to give it to you.

  6. Some people would believe in the afterlife, and day that her soirit visited you, which is why the dream seemed so real. It was good for you, even the crying part.
    keep your loved ones close.

  13. I love your dream VM. You do know that some day the dream will be reality, right? Some day... That's the joy in believing. I think in the meantime, dreams are just little reminders that there is much much more waiting on the other side. And death is never a final goodbye.

  17. I love this. I wish my father would be in my dreams more often. It has been so long that I feel him slipping away. What I wouldn't give to have a moment where I felt all wrapped up in him one more time.

  18. I dream about my dad sometimes and it's enormously comforting. I like to think this is his way of visiting me. Thanks for sharing this.

  19. Dreams like that are such a gift - to have her back again for a brief moment frozen in time.

    *sigh*

If only we could hold on to those fleeting moments for just a little longer.

  21. I think you do know what the dream meant.. you said it at the end of your post - you were wrapped in love. How lucky you are that your mother visits you. How comforting it must be to know she is still near.

  23. Dreams like this are so powerful. (and your mom is so beautiful...) I love that her 'dream house' was filled with paintings her children had made. So special.

  24. My mom used to tell me each time she dreamt of her mom, which died at 47, two years before my birth.

Her dreams were are pretty much like yours, and she'd remember her feelings more then what happened.

  25. i'm glad you got to see her last night. i know what you mean about the dreams being strange. i've only had a few w/ my mom, but i realize something is amiss while i'm dreaming. and our house is never our real house. hmmm.

  29. There's a part of her with you forever. I believe that. We just aren't good at letting those parts out so they have to come to you in your dreams.

  30. I think of it as an amazing blessing that those we love so much can still visit us in our dreams. That love is always with us.

  31. A beautiful slice of grace for you, plus a little confirmation that she's in a heavenly place doing what she loved doing? Hugs

  32. I like that the house was unfamiliar (because we don't know where she exactly, do we) but was filled with memorabilia and artwork of her children. Her location is unknown, but nearby, and she is keeping you close.

  33. I dream about family like this too, I love the house we are in it's bathed in light. It's a good feeling, bittersweet when you wake up.

  34. I consulted my dream interpretation book and it said you need to pass the love along now, so bake me cookies and send them to me.

    Everyone wins!

  35. I dreamed of my son last night. It was very real and we were just together and talking. I cannot remember any words that were said. Just a feeling of peace and love. When I woke I lay there trying to recapture the dream, but couldn't. The feeling, however did linger and I am in a better place today. Tomorrow will mark the one month anniversary of his death.

  36. The topic may not stick, but the feeling does.
I need to call my mom now.

  40. ARGH! I want to read this post but the duplo ad keeps blowing up and covering it every time I close it....VERY FRUSTRATING....

I'll be back! That ad needs to be put on a time out or something...along with that bar ad that floats up your blog, although that one normally behaves.

    much love

  41. Don't worry about what the dream meant, just rejoice in what you felt! Take care.

  42. Everytime I see a picture of your mom, I always think about how beautiful she was. And I know, that not only was she beautiful on the outside (as Captain and Irish have stated) but she was beautiful on the inside... she mothered and nurtured you into becoming the pretty awesome woman we all have grown to love.

I had a dream about MY mom last week. She was standing in the kitchen, she had giant freezer bags of minced meat and she was getting ready to cook up a bunch of meals for me. And it made me feel like everything was going to be alright. That's what it's about... Mom stopping by to give you some love.

  45. Your mom was a beauty! Gorgeous picture.

I dream about my dead parents all the time. And about their house which I grew up in. I like to think it's my subconscious's way of keeping them present and active in my life. In my dreams I can still tough and hear and smell them. Amazing.

  49. My mom visited me last night in a dream too. I have been dithering (one of her words) about whether or not to apply for a new position at work. In my dream, we talked about nothing significant. Just before I woke up, she told me "just do it. You'll get it or you won't but you will never know unless you apply." I applied today.
Each of your posts about your mom bring her back to me for just a moment...thank you~

  62. Thanks VM. The loving relationship you shared with your mom comes through. My mom is 78 years old and a wonderful, fun loving woman. Your posts reminded me to look at my mom more closely and keep rekindling the spark between a mom and her daughter,

  63. I dream of my grandmother sporadically and she raised me.
I get a little down when I think about her but, I feel that she pops into my dreams to let me know that she's still with me in spirit.

I always say she's watching over me, and when msking decisions I actually consider what she would do or what she might have thought.

I think your mom just wanted you to know that even though she's not physically here, she's with you in spirit. Beautiful Picture!
