Rooms to Let - Fifty Cents.

Attention all groundhogs: There's a new billion-room hotel conveniently located in a large garden area here in Oregon.

While you MIGHT have to share the common rooms with a couple of fairly large and well-fed groundhogs that are mighty crafty, clever and elusive; there appears to plenty of room for friends and neighbors. These groundhogs have also developed some kind of super-immune system and can eat just about anything that is designed to "put them to sleep." (They are also apparently wearing bullet-proof fur coats.)

And, here's a clever rear exit at the OTHER end of the garden.

Yeah. If we charged by the groundhog, I'd be so rich I'd able to pay Bill Murray to come over and get rid of these himself.

  1. Good luck getting rid of them. Maybe you could try Bill Murry's techniques. Just make sure you get some video when you do.

  2. The groundhog saga here is epic. They are under my house and have a vacation home under the garage. Just waiting for the babies to start their annual visit to my front porch. Ack.
    Good luck VM

  3. Don't you just love it. And they have an escape exit all ready. Like one huge hole in the garden isn't enough. Little bastards...

  4. We have one in our garden at school which is conveniently located right outside my classroom windows... my kids get a KICK out of him... and I get a kick out of the volunteer gardner who keeps trying to trap him... hasn't happened yet. In my room we're rooting for the groundhog and so far it's working.

  5. Oh.. Woodchucks! I had a bad problem with those critters. We did solve the problem. We bought this gaser thingy that allows us to attach the cars exhaust to a garden hose that you stick down the hole.

You block all holes that you can find with newspaper, put the hose down a hole, turn the car on and let he exhaust go down into the burrow.

The exhaust sinks. The animal thinks it's a forest fire and goes to the bottom of the burrow where it goes to sleep.

Self burying. No fuss. No Muss. No more woodchucks.

  6. If only you had a dog. Yeah, any self respecting dog would not allow a varmit like that to invade it's territory.

  7. I am apparently running a flying squirrel hot spot in my attic. SO much fun. They're nocturnal, you see.

  10. Our little Italian custodian used to tell me about how he captured the groundhogs in his yard and then what he did with them. As a joke I got some recipes off the internet and made him a little book of them for Groundhog Day. He didn't get the joke - he was going to give the book to his wife. I'm so glad she never shared any leftovers with us!

  11. None of these critters on our property but probably because we have two very large and curious rottweilers who would chase them away immediately. We do however see one across the road that lives under our neighbors driveway in a small culvert. She is there EVERY year raising her babies. Can't believe all the groundhog roadkill I see every year at this time.. Silly rodents can't seem to cross the road without having a terminal accident.

  13. We've got coyotes, skunks and raccoons in our neighborhood. The people across the street came home one night to find a raccoon had gone thru their dog door and was calmly going through their garbage.

  14. Way back when we had houses and gardens, we were told to use animal hair ( dog, wolf, lion, cougar, whatever) to scare the buggars away.

I also did the mothball thing but that made me stay away.

Cayenne pepper works if you can find something to put it on that they will like..

    Moving works also ..
(just thought I would throw that thought out there .. lol)
