Today in summer reading camp, we were using our sight words in a sentence. I held up the flashcard for the word “is”, and the children all shouted it out.
“Now, who can use the word IS in a sentence?” I asked. They all started shouting at once.
“I is hungry!” said Susie.
“We is going outside!” shouted John.
“Boys and girls, when you use the word is, you say it like this…He IS…something something something. You see?”
George, “ I know, I know! My turn! He is something something something.” (Big smile.)
And with that, George moved to the head of the class.

Greetings from Casa!
Sprite's been mixing up her verbs, most recently with "Where you at?" I try to correct her, but John corrected me when he reminded me that half our city uses that exact phrase. I shudder..

Kids are so literal - it always cracks me up.
ReplyDeleteI just love the simplicity of kids and I can't wait to hear about "Paying it forward."
ReplyDeleteWell, you know that George..he really is something :)
ReplyDeleteThat is too cute :) How do you keep from laughing?!
ReplyDeleteOh dang, I could be a genius in your class! Kindergarten, right? I think I is capable.
ReplyDeleteToo cute. You're right; being able to teach those little stinkers is a privilege.

ReplyDeletei have a george except his name is mikey and he has some issues so of course he's my favorite 5 yr old and he cracks me up! at an historic recreation village our camp went to (we wear blue tshirts) he sees a green shirt camp out the window. he leans out the window and in his robotic voice says "good afternoon. we are the blue team and we play video games." god i love him!
ReplyDeleteGeorge sounds very cute! Sometimes I really miss preschool teaching. Luckily I have my four year old twins to keep me in laughs.
ReplyDeletecontinuous blog fodder. woman, you have enough material for the next 500 years...
ReplyDeleteYou must have the patience of a saint. Years ago, I was sent from a temp agency to be a pre-school teacher's aide. There was NO teacher, just me. I made it through the day with 25 young ones. I left work that day, went straight to a bar and never went back!
ReplyDeleteThat's the kind of child that makes me want to work with children!
ReplyDeleteHe's funny.
