Some days I would just rather use a pen.

We were working on a math activity in summer school yesterday, when Susie said, “Mrs. Smythe, would you PLEASE tell Sam that it doesn’t matter HOW tall his pencil is? He keeps saying his pencil is the tallest.”

George, “Yeah. It doesn’t matter whose pencil is the tallest, as long as it’s sharpened.”

Ain’t that the truth.

  3. I am laughing so hard right now I cannot formulate an answer. And now I have a permanent visual of classroom pencil sharpeners that will forever stay in my pencil brain.
    Thanks a LOT!

  14. OMFG!! I HATE that! My kids argue about that on a daily basis, usually several times a day. It makes me NUTS!!!

When they aren't fighting over the tallest pencil, they're fighting over which eraser is the biggest! Freakin' kids!!!

  17. I get the feeling that Sam is going to grow up telling girls that this (holding thumb and forefinger a 1/2 inch apart) is 6 inches. : P

  20. Lol! Sam and my daughter are so related. Sometimes I wish I could just see how she is in her class because she hates losing, even to non-contests such as the tallest pencil.

  27. Hee Hee! Reminds me of how I have always pronounced both pin and pen the same way. At dinner when I was a teen I asked for a "pen" but it sounded, of course like "pin." My family asked for clarification and I said, dramatically, I need a P-E-N-I-S. Seemed funny at the time.

  28. I had a class one year that thought having the shortest pencil was the best! Lots of little fingers were sacrificed and I had to pry a lot of pencil stubs out of the sharpener!
