It reminds me of all the Catholic school teachers who drilled the multiplication tables and spelling words into me in grade school!
And of Mrs. Krebs who was tiny and didn't take crap from anyone in World Cultures class and made me love learning about Europe, and Sister Peter Claver who made me love Spanish Class! Thank you, ladies!
I've seen this before, and love it. I'm glad you posted it again, though. I needed to hear it today. After hearing teachers joke about paying someone to break a student's leg at the school I'm observing, this is a reminder of why I'm subjecting myself to the full-time school/full-time job craziness in order to become a teacher: so I can make a difference.
My district had him (Taylor Mali) as our keynote speaker for our first day of Inservice a few years ago. He was amazing....Truly incredible. If you do a You Tube search for him, you can see more about his work. But, as an inspirational speaker for a group of educators, he was absolutely unbelievable. Best inservice speaker ever....
I LOVE this!! I'm a nurse (I do a little teaching at my job!) and a MOM (I do a LOT of teaching at that job). I'm grateful for so many teachers along the way, & I'm sharing this with all the teachers I know! Thank you.
I must not have had THIS particularl teacher -- I always misspell definitely (definately). So true about the meaningful work. I mean, what is more meaningful than empowering our children with education?

Thank you. After watching this video I had to find out more. I googled Mr. Mali and found his website. He quit teaching a few years ago to pursue poetry and speaking. But when he quit he made himself a promise to inspire 1000 people to become teachers. Today you helped him. Because today I went to a college fair with my 16 year old daughter. She's been thinking of becoming a teacher. I showed her this video. She said "That's it! That's what I've been trying to say. That is what I want to do. I want to make a difference."
Darn! I hate weeping! We go to public school in LA and I can tell you EVERY DAY I thank the powers that be for our teachers. You make all the difference! (Teachers and the moms who bake for the events - LOVE those moms - especially the ones who make brownies from scratch.)
That was wonderful. And, as the spouse of a teacher, I can vouch that it's true. (Except the part that implies that all lawyers are so awful as to put down the wonderful teachers in their lives!) :)

I told him I would make a good teacher. And that's why so many people came to me for advice.
