I have glitter in every piece of clothing I own...

We have spent several BILLION days making menorahs, Christmas trees, Kwanza pictures, Santa’s, stockings, Greeting cards and anything else that REMOTELY resembles a holiday in December.

After reading books about REAL Reindeer, and talking about the “other” reindeer, we also made a bag of “reindeer food” that consisted of marshmallows, glitter and love. (Did I mention I have a headache?)

As I sent the children out the door today amidst a cloud of glitter, sequins and confectioner’s sugar, and carrying their reindeer food in their hands, I heard one little girl ask another what was in the bag. Her response?

“It’s for the goats.”

  6. I'm thinking that little girl is a hoot! I'm wondering if she knows something we don't...was there a memo or something? Reindeer on strike?

  13. Shopping? You mean we have to buy presents for the ungrateful children who we gave birth to? Isn't that enough of a present??

    : )

  14. My kids were always happy and excited to bring home their glittery oats for the reindeer. Unfortunately, we always forget to put it out.

  15. Yeah. It is about the same scene at our school.

The kids (children) are so darn funny!

  17. I see what happened with your little "Pagan Megan" there.

She confused "Donner" whose earlier name was "Dunder" ("Thunder") with the Old Dutch and High Germanic "Donar" aka "Thor" who is the god of thunder. [And Rock-N-Roll - AC/DC]

The poor child is mixing all her pagan stories up. See, Thor had two goats, "Tanngrisnir" ("Teeth-barer") and "Tanngnjóstr" ("Teeth-grinder") that pulled his chariot.

And, OBVIOUSLY, that's why she was thinking about the goats.

  18. It's when you clean clothes twice and they still have glitter in them that you know it's bad! lol.

And at least they know the difference between goats and reindeers - until a few years ago, I didn't even realise that reindeers were real haha x

    Freaking goats.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Makes perfect sense, why are you telling us this?

    ReplyDelete
  22. Hey Alex... maybe we should feed them some of what's in the bag. Hey, if it's good enough for goats.....

  23. Goats!! Too funny! We usually make reindeer food with glitter and oatmeal. It's still a mess!

  24. I bet the janitors hate you. When I worked at our elementary school, glitter was enemy #1 to the custodial staff.

  25. I'm going to giggle about goats all day long.

    ReplyDelete
  26. The goats! Ha!

Yes, my son has been telling me all about Kwanzaa since he learned about it at school.

  27. "It's for the goats." You just can't PAY for some of the remarks that come out of the mouths of children.

And speaking of glitter, I decided to be a little creative this year and make my own Christmas cards. Now there's glitter all over the dining room, and the cleaning lady is ticked off. I told her to not worry so much about getting rid of every speck...I like a little fairy sparkle all year round!

  28. I have sworn off glitter!!!! My daughter asked me to make her Christmas cards this year and I decided to use glitter on them. Something called "dazzling diamonds". I think they named it that because you wind up wearing so much of it!

  29. Goats? The fuck. Glitter is like the strippers revenge. Seriously that shit is evil. But I should carry it around in case I get in a fight. I would go all arts and crafts on someone and blow it in the eyes. That sting? Yeah? That's humiliation. And glitter.

  30. Maybe she's thinking that the reindeer are getting all the attention so she'll share a little love with the Goats?

Maybe her mom runs Kettle one and pays her to say things that will perpetuate the need for more vodka?

  31. Hey goats need love too....lol

  33. I got glitter in my eye once and it really hurt!

Or maybe it was a goat... My memory isn't what it used to be.

Also, my memory isn't what it used to be.

  34. Goats!

If my daughter brings any more glitter home from school, my husband might sue them. Oy.

  35. OMG . . . what is WRONG with the kids in your class this year??? LoL!

  36. Goats! I love it! lol. Thats just too cute!

  37. I am covered in glitter today- I helped out at my boys' preschool Christmas party and there was just way too much glitter in their projects.

That girls' comment on the food was too funny. Kids really pay attention, huh?

  42. i'd eat it
you DID say marshmallow, didnt you ?

  43. This reminds me of when I was little. My sister and I would throw carrots up on the roof and mom would let us put reindeer dust (very glitter and close to your mix) all over the lawn, so that they knew to stop at our house.

You're making amazing little memories for these tiny ones. God bless you. :)

    ReplyDelete
  44. So, do they ever try to eat the stuff they make in your class?

    ReplyDelete
  45. Good to know they've been listening.

  46. Great blog! And I haven't even started my shopping, either. Gonna be one of those "gift certificate Christmas" years for me. Happy Holidays!

  47. they say glitter is the herpes of arts & crafts...

  48. Hilarious. I have the opposite going on here. Thanks to a Little Einsteins Christmas DVD, anything at all deer-like (goat-like would be include b/c of the horns) is labeled a "baby reindeer."

Kind of unrelated - George kept wanting to put those spare christmas lightbulbs on the tree (the ones that are always rolling around in the bottom of my decorations box). I had to explain that there was no way to attach them - that they were just "spares." Then he looked at me with a satisfied expression of understanding and said, "OH - der [they're] for BEARS."

  49. It's for the ghosts!! HA HA HAHA , now I'm peeing in my pants laughing.

My favorite post from your classroom so far is the one with the picture of squirrel and the kid said, "Look he's just sitting there holding his nuts!!" CRACK UP!!!!

I wish I was blogging when I was teaching so long ago..kids really do say the funniest things!!

Oh and about that reindeer food..Yes we have a gallon and intend to sprinkle it all on a mini runway we are creating and will be lighting for the Santa's sleigh in our north field.
    Hope those raccoons ARE allergic!
