My father came for a visit last night.
We stood in a kitchen while he drank a glass of iced tea and talked of lawn mowers and hot summer days. I watched him intently, and listened to his soothing voice. It was like a song I hadn't heard for so long, and I drank it in.
And then, he wrapped me in his arms and held me.
How sweet... it's like he's letting you know that he's got you in his arms especially during the days you need it the most.
ReplyDeleteSay nighty night and kiss me...

ReplyDeleteHow lovely...wonderful.
ReplyDeleteOh, that is so sweet! You are very lucky!
ReplyDeleteDad's are always there when their daughters need them.
ReplyDeleteFabulous dream. I have told you before about my grandparents coming to me in my dreams to see my children. It's so comforting.
ReplyDeleteI miss my daddy's hugs.
ReplyDeleteThat song is just so tender. I've always loved hearing it. Just sort of carries me away for a few minutes. A shame Mama Cass died so young.

That's so comforting. I wish my parents would come to visit me from the great beyond. They rarely do.
ReplyDeleteThis is for Mandy. I once had a dream that my (then) husband's parents got permission to come down from heaven to meet our kids. They had passed on before I met my ex.
ReplyDeleteNothing makes me feel better like a hug from my daddy. And, after the roller coaster that you have been on these past few weeks, you deserve a hug from your daddy. :)
ReplyDeleteI find there is nothing better than having a hug from your daddy :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for the dream sequence - they can be comforting and sad both at the same time. But they are there to remind us who we are and what's important.
ReplyDeleteI know that feeling! Thank goodness for those visits!
ReplyDeleteMalisa
I haven't had one of those in a long time, I envy you.
ReplyDeleteIf there was one thing that I would ask for from the universe it would be just one more hug; I'll take a dream hug anytime.
I LOVE THESE kinds of dreams. I haven't had one of my father or my grandmother for a loooong time.
ReplyDeleteI wish I could will them upon my night sleep, b/c I ADORE those dreams.
I loved this post.
You.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful.
Enough said.
Peace ~ Rene
PS..It is nice to see Braja again :)
So sweet.
ReplyDeleteCheers,
Casey
What a beautiful dream.
ReplyDeleteThis has always been one of my favorite songs, and I sang it Stud Muffin every night at bedtime for almost a decade. (Yes, he put up with my need to keep him a baby for a long time!) I made him a CD once of all the songs that made me think of him, and this was the first one.
BTW, I had the most bizarre dream last night, that had me on a cruise with Jeffery Dahmer!!! Yikes! What the HELL do you think THAT means?!
You don't need to say more.....
ReplyDeleteBeautiful.
ReplyDeleteSuch brief words...but they made me cry.
ReplyDeleteI have these kind of dreams too few and far between.
How wonderful your father comes to visit. I just lost my husband (52) 10 days ago and pray every night he will come to me and kids. I worry about them. They are 20, 18 and 16... I hope they remember everything he tried to teach them during his short time here.
ReplyDeleteMade me cry :)
ReplyDeleteThe Good Cook, sending comforting thoughts your way.I am so sorry.
The Good Cook- I am sending heartfelt thoughts your way, as well. May each day bring you more strength and comfort.

You have the best dreams.
ReplyDeleteShoot. Now, I gotta call my dad. He may wonder why I am crying, though...
ReplyDeleteVery beautiful.
ReplyDeleteSweet...
ReplyDeletehe's always around, love
ReplyDeleteYou must have a great relationship with your dad. You're so lucky to still have him. Doug and I both lost our dad's when we were in our early 30's. Our kids never knew either of their grandfathers.
ReplyDeleteI love it when I dream about my dad. Waking up it seemed so real; I wonder if it is in some metaphysical way.
ReplyDeleteSweet dreams!
I would LOVE to have a dad like that!
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately, mine isn't.
I love it when they come visiting that way - when you need them most.
ReplyDeleteSo glad sweet Daddy came to visit his little girl!
ReplyDeleteEverytime I hear this song, I weep. It's the song my dad made an 8-track "loop" of when we brought my little brother home from the hospital. Our family dynamic (sadly) later unfolded with him having a second family and an extensive "secret" life, but this song, THIS song reminds me of the Daddy I love.
ReplyDeleteThank you!
(and how have I not been here before now? New follower...)
Peace to you, Vodkamom-sister
You are blessed.
