Family, heal thyself...

We are busy around this neck of woods. (Here in Oregon)

I am feverishly working on several projects. One, I will keep under wraps for a bit longer - because I am incredibly distracted by the second, more important project.

Keeping Sassy and our family safe, healthy and strong.

It's a daunting task. However, we are all looking at this as a learning experience and are trying to extract all of the good that has come of it.

"What good?" you ask. Well, there's plenty.

1. We have felt an immense amount of love and support from far and wide. Thank you Sara for sending the amazing book called "The Gift of Fear". We will pay it forward. The other words, suggestions, recommendations and thoughts have all been shared and appreciated.

2. Sassy has decided that a career in some kind of law enforcement is now in her future- and frankly we are all so happy. We can't believe we didn't think of it before. It's perfect for her. This revelation has given her a new perspective on this experience, and that is a good, good thing.

3. We are spending a bit more time being nice to each other, and a bit less time screaming our heads off. For now.

So, again, thank you from the bottom of our hearts. You've wrapped us in love and support, and we are thankful.

  1. Make sure and have Sassy practice making a smart remark as she pulls off her shades like CSI Miami. I learned all I know from TV!

Best wishes to her and to all of your family.

  4. Fantastic, and glad you love THE GIFT OF FEAR (no, I don't know the author!). It's an amazing book and things I read in it still stay with me - every time I see someone who makes me uneasy I remember that book and pay attention to my feelings. I cross the street, or get in another elevator, or take another route home. If I could I would send a copy to every woman and teenage girl I know.

  6. I love that!! You are all doing such a wonderful thing for each other!! Blessings to you!

If I may be "funny" for a moment, will she get to say:

"Hands Up! I'm Sassy, and You're under arrest"

  7. Wow, I can't imagine what it's been like for you and your family, but I'm praying that Sassy remains safe. With a Mama Bear like you, I don't see how it can be any other way. Stay strong, and nail that little punk!

  11. What doesn't kill us makes us stronger... nice to see that what has happened will be used as a postive experience and gave Sassy a perpose.. too bad it had to happen at all but to have good come of it is great.

  18. Oooooh, I read that book years ago and it gave me chills. It stuck with me though. It made me much smarter about listening to my own instincts. I definitely recommend it.

I was grabbed by a stranger in a park once and he tried to pull my into the woods nearby. I swear to you I didn't even panic, I just kinda rose up out of myself and assessed the situation and what my best options for survival were. I just kinda knew what to do and did it. And I escaped without even a scratch on me. Why? Because I lied. I pointed over his shoulder and told him my boyfriend was coming and I waved to the boyfriend who wasn't even there. The guy immediately dropped me and RAN FOR IT without even looking to see if I was telling the truth or not.

I sooooooooo deserve an Oscar for THAT!!!!

((((BIG HUGS TO YOU AND SASSY))))

  23. I've never heard of the book before but I'll be checking it out as well.

I'm glad that most importantly, you're all safe.

Sassy is going to make a great law enforcement officer because she is learning firsthand what it feels like to not be safe.

    Keep it up, Girl!

  24. I read The Gift of Fear several years ago and it totally transformed my way of thinking in various situations. Now, instead of taking verbal abuse that has the potential to escalate, I go ahead and call the police. People can get over that shit. You don't get over getting killed.

Congrats to Sassy for figuring out her career path. It sounds exciting!

  25. Hugs to you! I've heard GREAT things about that book.

  26. Good.

I hope the less yelling doesn't go on forever, you know.

What fun would life be then?

  27. Ooooh. Another book to read... which really sounds like a good one. Glad things are sorting themselves out... Sassy rocks. You all do. xxx

  28. Life lessons are never easy but make us stronger. Thanks for the info on the book. I'll pass it along to family and friends. Love and Light, Nina P.

  29. Sounds like Sassy's on her way to being a positive force for change instead of allowing herself to slide into victim mode. Sassy Rocks! (And so does your whole family.)

  30. That sounds like a terrific career path for Sassy!

How did the college visitation go?

  31. Time and time again you show us all just how amazing you are. Best to you and your family.

  32. So elated to hear y'all and weatherin' the storm and have found some blessings in all the madness. You're never far from the thoughts of all of us here in Texas.

    Take care of you.

  33. Balance and Harmony, is what we should all strive for in our lives when dealing with the human condition.

When this crisis hit your family, your family showed that coming together, supporting and caring for each other deeply, and taking the most proactive positive approach to the situation, and to life, is a life lesson for all. Be vigilant!

    ReplyDelete
  34. Take good care of each other! Isn't odd how serious a situation has to get in order for family members to be nicer to one another? I wish it could happen without all that you are going thru. I wish I could have without having to go thru something as serious as what you are enduring.

  37. Haven't been here in a while (or anywhere for that matter), but sorry to hear that things have been tough.

Bit worried bout (2) does that mean you'll now have to start paying taxes and cut off your connections with the rest of us?

    ReplyDelete
  38. Way to go finding that silver lining!

  39. My mom and I were talking about you guys on the phone the other day. You are definitely in our thoughts. Stay strong!

Sassy is going to make a great detective!

  42. Yes, I agree with EM that you're making limoncello out of lemonade. Damn weirdos.

I have his original book, and it took me a long time to read it because it freaked me out so badly. I sent a copy to my niece so she could protect her kids.

  43. Law Enforcement...what a great field for Sassy to pursue. You must be so proud of her. My best wishes that everyone continues to be happy and safe.

  44. I used to pretend I was sheriff of our street growing up--riding up and down the block. It came in handy when I became a journalist.

  51. I don't what the situation was with Sassy, but the hairs on my neck are already up. I know that as the mother of two pre-adolescent girls this needs to be a book I read. Thanks for sharing.
