The newest language course offered at the high school? Texting 101. (Well, at least they SHOULD.)

I'm over here today- sharing and wondering about the new-fangled art of texting. (If you have a moment, please leave a comment. It's for a great cause.)

Sigh. Dare I say it? Remember the olden days when we had phones that plugged into the WALLS?????????

In those days we shouted.

Today, we text.

I am an odd duck.
I rarely use my cell phone for anything but the time.
I email .
But living in a place where I don't speak the language that well, I prefer people to email/text me over phone calls because I can translate the written message easier and reply.
My taxi driver texted while driving once .
I told him to stop or let me out ... in Espanol .. I am so proud of myself.

My parents made me keep a quarter taped underneath the steering column so I could make a call if I was broke down/stranded. Actually, funny to think about since pay phones were few and far between.

its a whole new language .. often requiring the assistance of an 8 year old to explain what it says.... I'll take a call over texting anytime...xo HHL

I like texting. I like my cell phone and got rid of my wall phone (since nobody used it anymore!).

However, I HATE, HATE, HATE abbreviated texting.....I have to translate it and often just won't bother.

If some child texts me in abbreviated language, I reply "what?" repeatedly till they spell it out.

I not only remember phone on the wall with cords, but with dials, and we only needed to dial 4 numbers!

I have three young adult children with varied work schedules. The only way to communicate with them is via text. I don't mind any longer as this is our way of keeping in touch and it is significantly better than not "speaking" to each other at all.

I tell my kids that I pay for the phone..call me. Texting is for their friend that is sitting five feet from them. I want to hear a voice. And if I do text, I spell everything out and even use commas. I hate lazy texting. "Dat" for "that" is one that makes the the most nuts. One more letter takes that much more time?

My daughter, 12, is always correcting my texting. Mom, you don't write that you write this. I'm just way behind.

If i didn't text, i'd *never* get to "talk" with my 19 & 20 y.o. daughters!
Move forward or get lost in the past, i say.

Wow, I think I text more than I talk most days now. We don't really even use our home-phone anymore (I just use it to give to boys I really don't want to talk to...). Texting should totally count for knowing a second language...

i don't have a smart phone, so texting for me is a nightmare have to press a key 3 times. my kids tease me that my texting looks more like russian. and when your going in for a tumor on your brain surgery they really laugh at you, so i'd rather talk.

ya.....blogger lost my comment. the jist..... I'd rather talk than text.. have to hit some keys too many times.

Whatever did we do before texting? Oh yes. . . . we talked to people in person. We hand wrote notes. We even talked on the avocado colored phone with a 25 foot cord that would reach nearly anywhere in the house. And gosh, I do more than my fair share of texting. . . . . .

Oh, and that marquee sign in front of that church. . . is perfect! People who text while driving are as reckless as a drunk driver!
