He loved to eat paper towels, used tissues, cat food,
anything he could reach on the counters and tables and would attack anyone who
wanted to come near me.
He managed to get nabbed by the dog-catcher in our OWN FRONT YARD and spent the night barking in cage so incessantly they almost paid ME to
take him home. (Almost...)
He had epilepsy and a club foot, shared his meds with me, met his brother and acted like a puppy for
eleven years.
Until last week.
On Tuesday the vet said that Junior’s lymph nodes were
bulging, and we would know by the end of the week if it was what she suspected;
lymphoma.
I drove to Sassy’s field hockey game on Saturday, knowing
that he wasn’t doing well. I
pampered him more than usual all week, practically feeding him filet mignon,
ice cream and as many used tissues that he could stand. He stayed on his pillow that
morning and wagged his tail when I hugged him goodbye. I assured him I would see him that
evening and went on my way.
I drove home from the game crying like a baby after my
friend called to give me the news.
He loved me like no other and was the sunshine in my
life. And then he gave me one last gift. He chose to leave this earth peacefully
in our own home, while my nephew held him lovingly in his arms. He made the decision that would have been so very hard for me.
We buried him in the woods on Saturday night.
Please pardon me while I take a few days to recover. (Sometimes the salty part of this
life takes the wind out of my sails….)

Oh no. The loss of a beloved dog. I am so sorry for you and your family but yes, he did it his way. x
Love this! What a wonderful life you gave him and such a blessing to not make the decision for him.
oo i am so sorry...so hard to lose a pet cause they are family...
Oh! I'm so sorry. I know how much you loved him.
Oh! Who's a good boy? Junior! I'm really sorry. How lucky to have such a loyal buddy beside you for so long. Take as much time as you need, and we'll see you when we see you.
My heart hurts for you. I know how painful it is to lose a furry friend. I wish there was something I could say to make it all better.
((((HUGS))))
There are no good words, but these have always been my favorite to reflect on when I have lost my 4 legged friends:
"Near this spot are deposited the remains of one who possessed
beauty without vanity, strength without insolence, courage without
ferocity, and all the virtues of man, without his vices."
-Lord Byron
All my love Debbie.
Grief is the price we pay for love. I do not know who said it, but is very true. So sorry. I love SkylersDad comment.
This is my first time on your blog and I am crying. Our furry friends are so much a part of our family. We have 7 - 3 dogs and 4 cats - and over the years we have had to say goodbye to several. And it's never easy. I am so sorry - he sounds like he was a very special friend.
Crap...never easy losing a friend. I am sorry, which won't make you feel a damn bit better, but at least you will know someone cares. Gentlemanly of him to leave on his own accord:)
So often you make me laugh but today's news brought me to tears. I'm so sorry for your loss. I know it will take time to get used to the fact that your buddy won't be greeting you at the door when you get home from work. Hopefully the virtual hugs being passed along here will help even a tiny bit.
So very sorry for your loss. It is amazing how much you come to love your pets and how much they love you.
I am so sorry for the loss of your sweet puppy - there are not many things harder than losing a pet. Sending you virtual [[hugs]]!
I lost my pup 5 months ago (he was 16). I still tear up whenever I talk about or think about him. I'm sorry for your loss and I totally understand. I wish you much strength and healing.♥
