Teach your children well....even the BIG ones....

I have an amazing intern this year, who got more than she bargained for when she was assigned to my classroom.  Let’s just say we laugh, we cry, we laugh and then we cry.  It’s a roller coaster- and quite the learning experience.

She has bonded with the class, and appreciates their humor as well as their challenges.  (She’s my kind of girl.)

She was doing a lesson today on insects and wrapped it up with an assignment.

“Boys and girls,” she said with a smile, “I expect you to do your very best work on this diagram!  That means use your best handwriting, and try to sound out all the words yourself.”

The kids looked at her and nodded.

“OH!” she added,  “And THIS is your ticket to recess today.  You have to do your best, finish it and hand it to ME before you may participate in recess.”

“Oh MAN!” shouted Jack, “That's trickery!”  Then he turned to Ryan and shook his head, “She is VERY tricky…..”

Sigh.

My little grasshopper is learning many valuable things, but the most important?  Tricking the kids into learning is lesson number one.

I often had to be tricked into learning!

Hahaha! Stealth learning - brilliant! Your intern is a very lucky gal to be working with such a gifted and caring mentor.

SO glad Mr. Tall, Dark & Handsome is still pretty awesome.

Did you get the last bunch of box tops I sent?

Can you tell I love your labels as much as your posts?

Do you know I heart you?!

The trouble with that tack in Wisconsin is that too many 6th graders don't want to go outside for recess (too cold). I have one who actually got excited when I tried that trick on him. Needless to say, I learn quickly; his new consequence is letting his mom know he needs to work at home.haha
