Can't someone out there make me laugh??

I’m trying very, very hard to kick my own ass.

I have sunk down deep into a dark place that I’m finding it hard to climb out of.  I know that others in this world (and around me) have far more reason to be sad, but my heart just won’t listen to me.  I am looking for a light, for a way out of this, but it’s hard to find.

Oh, I know it will happen.  I know I’ll rise up out of this hole and feel the warm sunshine on my face very soon.  I know I will.

But it’s not today.

And so an attempt to help myself I am reaching out.  What do YOU do when you’re in the dumps?  When your body is begging you to put it to bed – to pull the covers over your head and sleep until you can sleep no more.

What do you do?   (For God’s sake someone please make me laugh…..)

I was in a dark place last night, too. I thought alcohol would help, and I went up to my local bar. Despite the camaraderie, I still had the sense to know that I was over the limit. That's when I decided to do what I have never done before: I took a cab home.

Sure enough, there was a police road block on the street on the way home, but since it was a cab, they waved me past. I arrived home safely without incident. This was both a great relief and surprise because I had never driven a cab before. I don't even know where I got it from and, now that it is in my garage, I don't know what to do with it.

I listen to my my body. I have one night of pity party that involves carbs, vino, and maybe a Ryan Gosling topless montage. I go to bed in my fave pjs, under the influence of that lemon neocitran drink.

Then I get the hell up the next day, shower, get my shit together and kick ass.

Embrace a night of dark. Makes the light of day that much more beautiful.

Reading/rereading some Erma Bombeck usually helps me to feel better. :)

My instinct is to stay in pjs, eat crap and lay in bed watching bad tv. BUT what usually makes me feel better is to have lunch or drinks with a friend or going for a walk. Just get busy doing anything other than wallowing Xo

I always need something to look forward to when I am feeling blue. A night out with friends is always good.

This won't make you laugh but starting exercising it will help your mood. I walk 30 minutes every day. It helps with stress and depression. Benefits; you lose some weight, sleep better. You just feel better all around.

I re -read a post from one of my favorite bloggers where she described her mother's framed poem titled "Today". A lot of wisdom in that poem.

Probably won't make you laugh...but I go out in my yard and prune something. Debby

Aww - VM, I feel Ur pain! I know U luv some physical activity & of course that helps (grumble grumble), so I figure U are wanting more than the usual, annoying wellness tips. I say wallow and soak in the darkness of Ur mood! Celebrate Ur feelings - happy & sad & funky, make Urself a plate of eggs in Ur favorite style - mine is over easyish/medium with bacon bits and shredded super sharp cheese, salt & pepper, write in Ur journal, wear Ur softest, warmest cozy clothes, watch some brainless tv, search the net for blogs or articles that give comfort to your current situations. Please know that your fans love you and use YOU to make it all better for them - I know this because YOU give me comfort when I'm blue. Thank you for sharing your life & your words, your heart with us.

I just absolve myself of all guilt, drop the baggage at the door, and start fresh. That or a Marx Brothers movie ;)

You should allow yourself some bed time first, then read something by Laurie Notaro and watch stuff on Wimp.com.

In my teens, when I was sad, I ate. Then in my twenties, I was sad because I had to diet. Food took a back seat to porn, and by my thirties I should've owned stock in the petroleum jelly market.By my forties, I was sad that I turned forty and aside from the pain of heavy chafing, also felt depressed. Now for the serious part of the story. (there is some truth to all this. Not mentioning what) By 45, I decided to pursue something I enjoyed--writing. Although it's made me no money. I've had a few novels published. Point is, you can't dread your life. The only way out of a hole is to climb out, no matter what it takes. Although, I must say, I do enjoy lying in bed sometimes and pretending the outside world doesn't exist. haha

Hmmm...you need a laugh you say?

Check your inbox for a picture of me in my bikini.

I'll be following that up with a copy of my checking account balance... :-/

Let me know if you need more than that.

Sorry. I don't have much in me right now...I hope you find your way out soon...no one should have to linger in the beiges.

1) restock batteries in household appliances (the remotes, yeah, that's it...)

2) buy really good chocolate (I can enjoy less and get more endorphins out of the good stuff)

3) treat yourself to a massage--see if local college has massage therapist students who need hours for program completion

4) get sunshine--even if it's cold out, bundle up and get sun in your system

5) challenge yourself to score a great deal on whatever for as little money as possible (retail therapy with less guilt--why I coupon--I recommend southernsavers.com for her matchups. She does national stores like cvs target and walgreens)

@ Auntie Pam, I'm rolling over that one!

I suggest going to bed with a large box of chocolate, eat every single bite, then sleep until you can't sleep anymore. Then put on your big girl pants and some lipstick and just do your best. One day at a time. And watch out for skunks. Skunks would really suck right about now.
Oh, and remember how very much we all love you.
Hang in the VM. We're on your side.
xoxo jj

Hi VM, long time no comment (kind of hard to comment on your posts w/o sounding like a dope).

Usually what does it for me is simply being alone yet being around people at the same time.

My den is located in the basement directly under the floor, so while I can get some much needed alone time, I can also get a little family time in as well.

I can SOOOOOOO relate to this. I've been there. Sometimes I revisit 'there'.

What do I do when the dark hole swallows me in it? I usually succumb. I burrow under a tunnel of six blankets, and wail and moan when the urge strikes. I prefer to do things that will allow me an 'escape' from reality (might include vino, although I am going off of that right now...gotta).

One of the things I am returning to that I'd lost sight of that helped my well-being was getting outside. Even if the weather isn't ideal, fresh air and a bit of wind or sun does wonders. Doesn't hurt that a nice walk is just good for you too.

Hugs. It looks like you're in good company.
