Generosity. It's pretty much what the Dr. ordered.

So, what do you do to pick yourself up? What's the best and most glorious way to battle the (crazy, traumatic moving) blues?

Throw some GOOD out into the world, that's how.

Today, after spending some time in an empty courtroom filled with the ghosts of spirits crushed and destroyed, I thought of all the things I could do today to lift myself up, and that's when I realized I had some very cool stuff sitting here ALL READY to give away!! Lifting someone ELSE up would surely life me up.

Do you remember Crayola?  As a teacher AND a parent, I know how precious good, quality school supplies are!  (And so does Crayola.) By some miracle of the (school) Gods, they reached out to me and gave me a $25 gift card to share with one of my readers! I have found....and you KNOW this to be true...that Crayola stuff is of great quality.  It's the number ONE go-to for all teachers.

In order to qualify for this give-away, you have to do the following by Sunday, September 7.

1. Perform ONE random act of kindness (I don't care if it's at the drive-through at Starbucks, the supermarket, or at an intersection or crosswalk.)
2.  Share in the comment section your FAVORITE childhood art project.  Preferably one I can do with my kindergartners!

You can enter as many times as you can stand it, but I will pick TWO winners from the random number generator.  The second winner will receive a $25 gift card from ME. THAT winner will be the one whose project I choose to do in school!!!  (An incredible friend donated to the button over there, and I want to share a portion of that blessing. )

Now, please, get crackin'.  (And stay tuned....I have another give-away tomorrow AND one on Saturday.  I've finally unpacked all the boxes...including ones from sponsors!!)

And thanks.  Thanks for kicking my @$$.

I remember my favorite thing was my teacher traced my body as I laid on a giant piece of paper and then we were all allowed to decorate our own outlines afterwards. Its was like a self portrait but the whole body:) I had it hanging up on my door (its like a door poster) for a long time. That was kindergarten and the only project I really remember cause I loved it so much!

I always loved it when the art teacher asked us to draw a portrait of a famous person (i.e. George Washington, Abe Lincoln, Betsy Ross, the incumbent President, etc.) or just to draw a portrait of the person seated next to me. We usually captured different iconic parts of the subject and now that I look back on those portraits, it's fun to see the ridiculous mustache or the floating ear, the crossed eyes, or nose hair the artist saw fitting to capture.

The other one was to paint a rock. The teacher would bring in small (3" or 4" dia.) smooth rocks and ask us to paint them. I always painted a face on mine.

Styrofoam, pipe cleaners, feathers and glue were always crowd pleasers.

Today I made lunch for the DirecTV guy who spent an hour on my roof in the very hot sun getting my dish to work again. Does that count?

And if I win, I'll give the card to my kindergarten teacher niece!

Happy new school year.

I still remember drawing alliterative words. Mine was a very expressive "POW!" Of course, that was back in the 60's. I'm not sure that would work today!

I went to Catholic school in the primary grades. I don't remember ever doing art. I can, however, still recite the first few answers to the Baltimore Catechism. I spent the summer with my granddaughters...they love any project with glitter! We made refrigerator magnets with those clear glass stones. We glued pictures on the back, stuck on a magnet and they are very cute. I bought a bag of the stones at the dollar store...they used every one.

So sorry the court date was postponed. Hang in there, you must be able to see the light at the end of the tunnel by now.

I'm doing a lot of kind acts for people I know today BUT I will do a random one too.

My favorite art childhood art project is so easy.

Take a piece of cardboard and cut out into 4 x6 or 5x7

Scavenger around for acorns, branches, etc that will fit on it. Glue them onto the board like a collage. Then take goggly eye and glue on some of them.. It pretty much gives faces to items in nature and is very cute

We called it "the crowd"

I loved doing leaf rubbings as a kid. We would bring in a bag of various types of leaves from home and put them one at a time under a sheet of white paper and using the side of a crayon lightly color over them to pick up the leaf print. They look pretty when you use various fall colors over each other and fill the page.
My random act of kindness...if I am randomly chosen I will gift back to you the giftcard :-) I bet you could put it to good use for some classroom supplies! I hope that's not a rule violation:-) I really would want you to have it:-)

My gift will go to my favorite Kindergarten teacher who has a baby boy and is struggling to make it on the teaching salary. (Aren't we all?)

My favorite art project? No idea, but I loved when the girls did the trace around the body thing--and then had their paper body sitting in their chair for an Open House night. (They could put books, colors, etc. at their space to show their paper person working. One took a Coke can from home so her person was drinking coke--totally forbidden at school by the way.) It was a great way to see how kids perceive themselves.

I love corn syrup stained glass art. It's always so bright and colorful. Start with an bold black outline drawing on heavy paper. Mix a little food coloring into corn syrup. Paint the picture. You can use paintbrushes but I think it's easier to lay the corn syrup on thick and manipulate it with something a little harder like coffee stirrers, popsicle sticks, the backs (or handles) of plastic spoons or even toothpicks in a pinch. It looks really cool when you allow two colors to touch/overlap and swirl them a tad. So pretty. (Although, admittedly, messy. But it's a yummy mess.)
I always look forward to reading your posts and wish you all the best.

You and your posts are the bomb, the best! Like everyone, I get so, so busy running my business and don't always find the time to comment on your posts. So, I guess I just wanted you to know, after all these years, I still enjoy reading what you write. I think of you with your "kids" in your classroom. I've got four of the sweetest grandbabies ever from my son and my daughter. One just started 3rd grade. The second just started kindergarden. The third is in pre-school, and God better keep his eye on my little two year old Brooklyn, because she is a real pistol, but I so love my little blue eyes! Anyway, I just wanted you to know after all this time, I STILL love what you write my friend. . .

Take care, Sue

Random Act of Kindness was running colleagues materials through the laminator after mine. :-) You KNOW that is a gift.

My favorite art project was finger painting with Hershey's Syrup after reading The Chocolate Touch. I think it was 3rd grade, but because it was my favorite art activity as a kid, I do it every year in June with my first graders.

My act of kindness was doing laminating for the Spanish teacher and several others while doing it for my teacher.
I NEED some new crayons - broken crayons give me a headache and I promise I will share with the Spanish teacher!

I bought some art supplies to send to my son's teacher...does that count. I will so something else random today for someone else - I'll buy a coworker lunch.

As for my favorite art project in school...I would have to say it was a paper machete project that we did in 4th grade - it was messy, and gooey and loads of fun...I don't know what I planned to make, exactly, but it turned out looking like Q-Bert (as Atari game character). :) We had to paint it after, and I ruined a brand new outfit when I went to wash the paint off my hands and the water pressure splashed it all back onto me - my mom wasn't happy, but the project was so much fun I didn't care.
