We’ve been in Summer Reading Camp for six weeks. Sure, it’s really only 23 days, but
still…SIX WEEKS!!
I’ve read them a thousand wonderful books, discussed various
reading strategies, had them practice word families, beginning and
ending sounds, chunking, blending, trading a word, skipping a word, and every
other reading “trick” I could cram into a three hour a day/four day week.
Today, the next to the LAST day of camp, I was helping the
children wrap up their Kid Writing Journals with one last entry. I made an example that said, “In Summer
Reading Camp I met many new friends….etc.”
As I read my entry aloud, Sam yelled, “WAIT!” and looked at me with his head tilted, “This is READING camp?”
And he’s the ONE child who never missed a day….
