Something to think about......

There's one sad truth in life I've found
While journeying east and west -
The only folks we really wound
Are those we love the best.
We flatter those we scarcely know,
We please the fleeting guest,
And deal full many a thoughtless blow
To those who love us best.

It's a shame that we all have to learn the lesson sooner or later - but my deepest sympathy goes to you, Vodka Mom! You're the one who is going to have to soothe her through all the draaammmahhh of this horrible experience!

Oh, well - pour one for me while you're at it!

Nothing harder than young heartache.
She will look back 20 years from now and be so relieved she's not raising his babies.
Sure that's not what she wants to hear right now though, and I'm sure as her parents, having been hs sweethearts doesn't make it any easier for you to explain to her that he's probably not "the one!"

At least he hung around until after the prom. Still a jerk though.

As we've mentioned in the past to each other - you just have to be there to pick up what pieces you can.

Be sure to wait at least a couple of weeks before publicly bashing him!!

Kisses to you and Sassy.

I guess I have missed something, but whatever happened, I hope it blows over without much trouble. :-)

Cuz that's what a cyber Auntie would do!

My mother always, always, ALWAYS told us... "Treat your friends like family and your family like friends."

It's amazing how sugary sweet we are to people we hardly know and can be salty and crusty to our parents (as kids), spouses, and even our own kids. Thanks for the excellent reminder.

It is so hard to see your children sad. You would love to protect them from all the heartache that is out in this big bad world of ours!

I still say.......Where is Uncle Guido when we need him?

Sassy will find someone much much better!

But it still hurts so much.

*hand raised*

It happens. There's never a 'good' time to feel that kind of hurt. Never.

Just love her. She will get through it.

Been there done that. It's horrible to watch their heart seep between their ribs.

You must, must, must immediately direct her to the best song..."Fuck Was I" by Jenny Owen Youngs. Seriously.

And I don't know if you ever saw this post but it contains the playlist I made for Eldest at the time of her horrid break-up last summer: http://underdaroof.blogspot.com/2008/08/with-little-help-from-my-friends.html.

Lots of mommy-hugs and chocolate from you.

So true...sad though!
What a jerk he was...I guess there's one born every minute(jerk)
So sorry she had to find one!

I don't like this poem because it's entirely true. A person puts on a happy face for company they don't know well and doesn't extend the same courtesy to those she lives with... I understand your reference here, but I hate that I am completely guilty of this.

brilliant but far too true xx

So much wisdom in that.

Poor Sassy... At least he's gone now, right? If you are meant to be with someone, they won't continue to hurt you. Remind her of that. It is the best lesson I brought with me from high school.

Whoa! Were you at my house tonight?

Just hold her hand and say comforting things. All the philosophy in the world does not mend the broken heart of a young girl 2 seconds after her heart is broken.

A lot of things are dealt with by talking about it before they happen, and talking about what one might do in such and such a situation.

Reminds me of the saying, "Treat your guests like family, and treat your family like guests".

Although, a friend of mine sums it up more succinctly with this: "Guests are like fish, they start to stink after 3 days."

If some boy can't appreciate all her great qualities, she doesn't need him. First loves are always so hard. I'm thinking about her.

And how quickly is that love reversed
Upon our thoughtless woes
Even if no malcontent is meant
neither party knows;
And the love that once had blossomed
Now withers on the vine
Is there ever hope to reconcile
And make all again be fine?

disclaimer: i had an argument with my 20 year old daughter, therefore i'm feeling pissy and truthful today.

i get that you're sad for your daughter. but are you sad for the boy too? was this a surprise you didn't see coming?

my daughter, D20, recently broke up with a loser bf that tore her heart to shreds. i had him pegged for a loser from the word go. but what's a mother to do but let it play out and roll her eyes when her know-it-all kid isn't looking.

as for the poem? totally me. i had to say some hurtful things to my daughter this morning because it's time for her to grow up.

thanks for letting me vent. the poem made me do it.

Yes, the boyfriend is a very very nice boy. I am sad for him as well.

They were just ready to go separate ways- but it still hurts.

Sorry for Sassy, the first one is often the hardest, if only because we have nothing to compare the pain to.

so sad but true.

Roshni said...

that is so true! We g out of our way to help people we know a short while and take our families for granted!

Um..does this mean Sassy's boyfriend actually loves her?!

Well, you could look at it this way - she's honing her asshole radar. My daughter didn't date in HS (she would kill me for putting that in writing)and then when she got to college and "her life began" she went through some real jerks.... it's much harder to console when they're in another state.
