There is some good in the world...

Yeah, I love this crazy life.  I always spend Mother’s Day a bit on edge (Motherless daughters tend to do that…) and odds are GREAT that I will cry at some point during the day.

However, this day was a bit unusual…I spent quite a bit of time thinking about what I liked about my life.  Here it is:

1.    I love that my kids can scream at me at the top of their lungs, tell me they hate me and that I am the worst mother in the world, and still have a red-eye from Starbucks, new gardening gloves (Um, I needed them YESTERDAY people) a Sunday paper and a huge bouquet of sunflowers waiting for me when I woke on Mother’s Day.

2.  I love that I can be reduced to a blubbering idiot over a tad bit of a problem at work, and yet still find I have forgiveness in my heart.  I can always be a better teacher, person and friend.

3.  I love that Tightwad can infuriate me at times, and yet know exactly what I need when I feeling a bit down.  He’s a keeper. (For God’s sake don’t tell him that.)

4.  I love that Golden Boy has been sleeping in a real bed for 6 weeks now.  Every.  Single.  Night.  (Yeah, he’s ten, but that’s a long story …)

Yeah, I’m a happy little mother right about now.

My hubs is a motherless son and the first year we had a child I didn't want him to fuss about Mother's Day - figured it might be difficult for him. I was very very wrong about that. That's the kind of wrong I like to be!!!

Glad you're in a good place!

Luxuriating in your blessings on Mother's Day. That's just the way to do it!

Ahhh... What a nice post. I am glad you are feeling a bit better... I remember being a kid like that... (saying not so nice things to my mom... who loves us more than anything....) Bracing myself that my kids will give it back to me 10 fold...

Hugs from Norway!

Golden Boy!!!! I have missed that nickname! Good one.

My 11 year old still needs someone to lie with him before bed... and he wanted to sleep in my bed when Tom was gone this weekend!!! Not going to happen!

Mrs. E said...

Tightwad? I want to use that nickname, too! You either crack me up or touch me...every time I visit!! So glad I found you!

A Starbuck what?! Sounds hideous, you Americans..

Am so glad you had a great day surrounded by those who love you. Whether screaming at you or not, they still love you and are just fighting the growing up thing the only way they know how.

6 weeks in his own bed? Can you give me some pointers on that for my 10 year old?
And tightwad is a keeper? Good grief, don't let him read your blog! :)

I is easy to see what things you have to be grateful for when you stop and really take a look...I hope your day with your family filled your heart and heals your loss a little more.

I have not lost my mother, but we are not close...I have a bit of a hole there myself...and #1...It's amazing how I can be the worst mom, then get the most beautiful book of love from my DD...

Charish your moments...

The bed thing--I know. My teenage boys much prefer the couch--it's so annoying.

All 3 of my kids (15,18, 21) got out of bed by 11 for Mother's Day Brunch. AND the youngest made me a card that said "thanks for not being a judgmental mom." Doesn't get much better...
You're right; gotta appreciate the small stuff.

Yep, we all have to look at the shiny side of the coin! My grown kids and I are very close, and actually we all work together in our family business. There is usually one of us thats pissed of at another. But at the end of the day, when push comes to shove, I love all three of them and days like Mother's Day really reminds me of the joy those three knuckleheads bring me daily!
Take care, Sue

You know, I HAVE a pair of gardening gloves, but I can never find them when I need them, so needless to say, my fingernails were a tad gnarly yesterday!
Glad your kids know that yelling at their mom is a rare and beautiful privilege.
Equally glad you had a lovely day!

new to your blog. Thank you for sharing a moment about being a motherless daughter. It gave me some food for though on an extra daughter that came over for mother's day. Her mom died when she was 11. She is now 27 and still single. Funny, she's an ex of my son but has been a a sort of part of our family since she also hangs out with my son and is dating his best friend. Life is funny sometimes. Anyway, I could have done more than to just welcome her...
