Who's in charge around here?

Dear people who work at the Cruel Twist of Fate Company,

Don’t you people know it’s CHRISTMAS in three weeks? Didn’t you get the memo that Tightwad wasn’t working for ELEVEN months last year, and that he was laid off again YESTERDAY???

Yeah. So when you swirled your finger and caused that eight point BUCK to jump out in front of his truck on the way HOME from hunting camp, it just couldn’t have happened at a better time. Really. (When I told him “I hope you bag a buck” I didn’t MEAN with his TRUCK.)

So, I hope the kids ALL enjoy the new $1800 front end that we need to purchase for said vehicle. It’s about the only gift we’ll be able to afford. We’ll try to make sure they all get a chance to unwrap it, although I have a feeling it won’t fit under the tree.

(Can anyone craft a turkey out of bright orange mac and cheese and Ramen Noodles? Let me know…)

Ho. Ho. Ho.

(I am hiding over here today, as well. )

Oh yikes! I'm glad he wasn't hurt, but man, talk about a cruel twist of fate. I sure hope the new year will bring some better luck your way!

Uhm hello? Insurance? it's not counted as collision- it's comprehensive because you collided with an animal (I worked in insurance for 15 years)- unless you have an 1800 deductible, your only out of pocket should be whatever your deductible is...AND using this coverage doesn't go against your policy as long as you dont make buckoo (ha!) claims

Vodka Mom said...

Hmmmmmmmm, I'm thinking I need to take Tightwad behind the shed and have a little CHAT WITH HIM!!!

Irish Gumbo said...

Don't know as I could do it out of mac & cheese and ramen...Spam, maybe.

Glad no one was hurt, VM. Whew

I'm so sorry to hear about the truck and the job.

What kind of a company does layoffs TWO WEEKS BEFORE CHRISTMAS??? If things are so bad that they couldn't wait until January, and they didn't see it coming MONTHS ago, then that is one BADLY managed company. Or heartless. Pick one.

Sheesh. Can I help? Seriously. Email me.

Scope said...

Are you at least going to be able to serve VENISON for Christmas, or did the deer do a "get hit and run"?

And there is an episode of M*A*S*H where they make a "Spam lamb" so you could go that route.

Unknown said...

Hey, at least you'll have venison in the freezer for months to come!

Unknown said...

Assume no one, other than Bambi, was hurt??

Stacy Uncorked said...

Oh no!! Poor tightwad's truck!

Did you at least get to keep the deer meat? That could make for a festive Christmas meal... ;)

And what Mrs. K said... :)

Ugh! I know just how you feel. We cancelled our vacation last year so that we could put a $2700 transmission in the minivan.

Yeah, that was a fun conversation. Sorry everyone, no sun and beach this year, we're going to take turns riding around the block with heat up really high.

Aunt Becky said...

Oh no! I'm so sorry. I'm so, so, sorry.

Jan said...

Egads, woman - do you just have liability insurance on the truck, or a really big deductible?

I'm so sorry, hon. But I'm glad Tightwad and Golden Boy are okay.

Brian Miller said...

yikes. did he at least throw it in the back so you did not have to worry about buying christmas dinner?

so sorry, that sucks...we have suicidal deer all over the place here..

Michele said...

As probably the only vegetarian in the group I can make mac & cheese look like turkey but my nutloaf is easier to shape into a turkey visage.

Animals don't count on your deductible because it is totally unavoidable. Trust I know. I've hit one or two before (What? they jump out at the last minute. I can't help it if they like to commit hari-kari on my vehicles).

Kyddryn said...

Oh, Mizz Vodkamom, I'm so sorry...

I wish I knew some words of encouragement, something inspiring or comforting...but my mantra these days is "I'll muddle through somehow.", often muttered or mumbled while stumbling bleary-eyed through another day. I do hope that Tightwad finds employment again soon.

Meanwhile, there's a turkey in my freezer you can have...can they be Fed-Exed?

Shade and Sweetwater,
K (who is in no way a gazillionaire, but she has aspirations...)

I hope the 8 pointer ended up in the back of the truck after that.

Kim said...

Didn't that buck have insurance? :)

mepsipax said...

Oh wow that sucks. Hope you at least saved the meat. Shape it into a turkey.

Anonymous said...

Ugh, don't even get me started on insurance companies. I hope you find a way to get them to pay for it.

At least they are ok, but I know it sucks. Just when you think you are getting ahead and something like this happens to f*ck it all up.

Sandee said...

He got laid off again. Geez! Sorry about the truck. I know you don't need this kind of aggravation. :(

Michele R said...

Oh no, when it rains it pours. Glad that everyone is OK. Now about that Ford--what year is it? Ours combusted due to the recall of the device under the cruise control. See my post in May 2009.

Desert Songbird said...

Laid off? Again?! *heavy sigh* I know your pain so well.

I have no words of wisdom, comfort, or insight. I can offer only empathy.

Plug along, my friend. Plug along.

justmakingourway said...

There should just be no f*ckery during this time of year, dammit! And yet, there is. I'm sorry about Tightwad's truck - and the stress it will add.

Just keep swimming, just keep swimming...

Oh, I am sorry to hear this. I have been through both and it sucks. A huge deer ran straight into the side of my van once- I never saw it and I thought my car had just exploded. Our insurance did cover everything but the deductible, luckily.

We've also been the laid off for months, back to work, then laid off again route. My husband finally left that high-paying(union) merry go round and took a job at literally half of what he had been earning. That's a shock to the paycheck. And yes, he was laid off once two weeks before Christmas. End of year bookkeeping strategies stink.

I got a little carried away, what I meant to do was empathise and wish you some much better luck in the future. One of those years you can't wait to see end, eh?

well thats enough to make ya say bah humbug....Im sorry that this happened to you at all, but even more at the holidays.....

sending good thoughts your way

Sprite's Keeper said...

Seriously? Can you hear my screams all the way from Florida?!?!?!
Vodka, I am so sorry this keeps shitting on you!
I am praying for a new job for TW and a new front end for the car.
I'm even putting it in front of my world peace request. (That never comes through anyway.)

We've got some laid offish situations going on in my house house too, so I can relate. Would NOT want to add front end repair to my shopping list. Argh!

Just so Santa remembers to put a fat bottle of clear liquid in your stocking, all will be merry.

Fuck that buck.

Meeko Fabulous said...

Did the buck live? If not . . . You got a supply of meat. :) Poor truck. Hope everything works out. Insurance won't cover it? Rat bastards.

Ok I hope the insurance lady is right and you don't have to pay for all of that out of pocket :( Merry Christmas?

Somehow, your car/water heater/washer and dryer always knows when you're strapped for cash.

They accommodate you by breaking down in rapid succession and always in the most expensive way possible.

I, for one, think turkey ramen sounds amazing, but I am a student and we have a sick affinity for that kind of thing.

Counselormama said...

NO WAY! This is totally something that would happen to us, jeez, what are the chances?

Kate Coveny Hood said...

Oh no! I'm so sorry...hitting a huge animal like that would be terrifying (on top of the financial nightmare).

Dawn said...

I'm sorry that happened-we hit a deer before and it sucks! Who'd think it could do so much damage.

Anonymous said...

I bagged my first (and only) buck with a 98 Dodge Ram going 70. I keep saying if they find a way to slow the bullet down, put lights and a horn on it the deer will actually jump in FRONT of it. Still don't get why someone would rather sit on a folding chair for 10 hours in a tree freezing their balls off. Proof that if women made hunting equipment, more deer would be harvested.

Why get the grill fixed when you could just throw a nice wreath on the front of the truck and celebrate the season?
Hope Tightwad wasn't hurt and bummer about the job loss.

Ugh. Girl, I am so sorry. Can you cook that damn deer for Christmas dinner?
