You thought childbirth was fun? Girl, those 18 hours of labor were the easy part.

Here’s what happens when your 18-year old daughter doesn’t TECHNICALLY need your permission to do anything.

Tattoo #3.

God help me.

(I'm over here. If anyone cares or has extra time on their hands. )

It's on her side.

It's nice. But OMG I was just SHOCKED. She could have WARNED ME.

I can't think that far ahead. I can only handle right now.

Thank God everything is spelled correctly, she's a teacher's kid for crying out loud.

Hope she still likes it when she's 60 years old.

I do love the saying but think I would rather hang it on the wall than on my body.

Kids these days...

Oy.

Is it as enormous as it looks?

Kathleen said...

Oh, it's just a phase ... in a permanent ink kinda way.
Mine has a big dog print on belly, you know, the part that grows first when you are pregnant. (snicker, snicker)
Do they skip stretch marks in sex ed?

Tracie said...

I want to see that again (in several years) when she's pregnant!

Michele said...

When she gets older and puts on a little weight it will only get bigger. That just means that she won't need those reading glasses to see it. Good for her. That's thinking ahead.

Keyona said...

Oh.My.Gawsh. She has no clue what that will look like after having kids or better yet when her skin starts to wrinkle and sag.....

My good friend, Mr. James William Buffett has a song entitled "A Permanent Reminder of a Temporary Feeling."

Anonymous said...

Oh my... she may regret that if she expands like I did when I had my babies. But for now, it's nice. Take a valium, VM, and another in the morning.

noexcuses said...

What? Where are the happy faces and roses? I have one of those 18 year old girls who no longer needs my permission. Then when I remind her of the financial aspect of her life (like wtf do you think pays for everything else to sustain you?)!!!!!

When she's a Shar pei (sp?) like me, ony one line will show... which one?

Take two valium...

ILLINOIS--Motherfucker.

can you imagine?

Pseudo said...

Her side? Hpfp. OK I am ready to see the other two now. Plus, you have given me SOMETHING to realize my newly turned 18 year old son has not done. Ack. Give him time...

Anonymous said...

Whew! Like the others said I hope she likes it after she puts on a few pounds or has a baby. Live for the moment, and regret for a lifetime. That's how I think of tatoos.

Joanie said...

I should take a picture of Dani's 15 piercings. No tattooes though.

Joanie said...

My son, on the other hand, has 2 tats.... one is really big.

jb said...

I agree with Paige ILLINOIS--Motherfucker.....Is unimaginable in large black block lettering so I guess you got lucky or Not!!!! Makes me rethink getting a tattoo.

Oh, and Sprite's Keeper? LOL

xo can't wait to give you a huge hug soon.

My daughters are 19 and 20. I'll have to post pix of their tatts for ya.
The 20 y.o. has FIVE!
The 19 y.o. has TWO!

I shudder to think what my daughter will do at that age. Yikes.

Anne said...

I 'like' it and it horrifies me all at the same time. Could be so much worse... but could be lots better too... Like a little I 'heart' Mom on some place that can be entirely covered up. :-) Still sober? Good for you!

Jenn @ Juggling Life said...

We have an understanding with our over 18-year olds. If you have the money to spend on tattoos you must not need ours for living expenses.

We did give the okay for our son to get ONE tattoo on his arm (design, size, etc. pre-approved by us). So we're not TOTAL hard-asses. Just mostly!

As tattoos go, hers is not bad looking at all :)

Crazy Charm said...

I wish I had the balls to get a tattoo or the decisiveness to decide upon something I like enough to have on my body for the rest of my life. I can't even decide what to have for lunch some days. lol

Brenda Susan said...

Oh dear lady, it's not ugly and you really can be thankful for that right now. Seriously, it is shocking when you had no warning for it I know, but it is not ugly or gruesome....seen my Rocker Sons pics recently?

I found out about my son's first tat while grocery shopping from another mom...and he was underage!! oy!

God help us!!

J.J. in L.A. said...

I know a 22 y.o. who had "Love forgives all..." tatted just under her collarbone, 3 weeks before she'd be wearing a strapless dress as maid-of-honor in her sister's wedding.

Let's just say the bride didn't take the message to heart. lol!

Mimi Lenox said...

Sigh.

My son has tats. They were shocking. No warning. I get it. Totally. It's a generational thing.
I looked at him and said, "I did not birth you that way!!!"
Bah!!

Oh Lord. The memory.
BUT....over the years I've grown to understand the meanings behind what he had done. To him, they are important. To me, they just make me squirm.

Of course, when he walks his own 6-year-old now to kindergarten class, it's not so "cool" anymore....

Again I say...sigh.

Gayle said...

Wow! That's big. Is she nuts? I was little once. Then I had five babies. That would some stretched out screwed up foreign thing now. Hope she gets lucky.

I just don't get the whole tattoo thing. To each his own I guess.

My sister-in-laws (all 3) are getting their first tats & they are all between 50-60 years old. Grown nephews & nieces all have them & keep adding them. *sigh*

I do wish she's happy with it
- when (if) pregnant
- after pregnancy because your body's not the same after that
- asked to be a model but not with that
- when she's 30, 40...
I could go on but not worth it - it's done...
I wish she's happy with her tattoo rest of her life...

Gigi said...

I plan on doing what a friend of mine did with his kids. No tattoos until you no longer require financial support from me. This kept his kids from getting them. At least until they got out of college....

At least it's a nice looking tattoo and it's not on her neck or somewhere visible that might keep her from getting a job somewhere...

Sorry she surprised you with it though.

WeaselMomma said...

Oh, my Lord!

Liz Wilkey (a.k.a. A Mom on Spin) said...

I have a headache now too!

ToyLady said...

My kid has several . . . I don't even know how many anymore. I finally asked him to quit showing me.

And the piercings - good lord, the piercings. Again, don't even want to know how many. Or where.

*shudder*

*sigh*

Elaine said...

maybe you should remind her that the best things come in SMALL packages? She does have guts tho!

lisahgolden said...

The 19 year old is making "want a tattoo" noises. I used to want one so I understand, but since she has zero capacity to bear pain, I'm thinking this too shall pass.

JoeinVegas said...

Oh, sorry, but maybe her daughter will laugh.

Sue said...

All three of my grown kids have tatt's! I gave up years ago. My son is covered in them so I "try" to look at them as art! I struggle while trying, but what else are you going to do?

Take care, Sue

ChiTown Girl said...

Oh no she di-int!!!!

My hard and fast rule to my darling son is "You will NOT put graffiti on the body that I made!!" Let's just hope he listens when he's over 18. :(

I've wanted a tattoo forever, but I'm still afraid of the wrath of my mother at 37 years old. No kidding.

Wish I could comment but I DO have my own tattoo. However, in my defense I did wait until I was 45 :)

someone should collect images of really old people with tatoos and do a "this is your tattoo today, this is your tattoo when you are old and shrivled" I bet the industry would dry up over night ;)

Oh yeah- While we were gone on a trip our son, got "High Society" tattooed on his butt, then proceeded to show it to everybody at the Thanksgiving dinner table- Gma included! Thank God she had a good sense of humor.

Wild Child said...

My jaw did drop. I echo some others, that I hope she likes it when there's stretch marks. However, I am contemplating getting one, just not that big and maybe in a place you can't see even when my swimsuit is on. Of course, I am planning to do it when I turn 40, so I think I have had some time to think about it....

Angie Ledbetter said...

At least it's spelled correctly. I can't say anything since I have a few tats myself...but if it makes you feel better, one of my precious darlings (19) now sports lip piercings beneath his beard.

shrink on the couch said...

I've seen worse (we all have, right?) but damn. Hate to see a kid brand themselves. They have no idea how much morphing goes on over the years, mind and body.

I hate it when kids think tattoos are cool. When they're 55 years old they are SO going to regret it.

Oh my! That's...large but it could be worse...seriously...my niece decided to get a picture of a turd ( that's what it looks like anyway - honestly it's hideous) that says s.h.i.t. happens. Isn't that great! I'm sure she'll love that for the rest of her life. Wth?

As soon as my sister and I started getting tattoos my parents both went out and started getting them. At least it's spelled right :)

Notes From ABroad said...

When my son said he wanted a tattoo, my husband said, great, let's get it done together.
My son has no tattoos.. neither does the husband. phew!

My daughter on the other hand .. surprised me with a tiny delicate girly little flower on her ankle.

Personally, I hate tattoos.. most likely some deep seated memory of childhood and scary men with words written on their bodies or faces or biceps.
( lest someone wonder where in the world did that poor child live ... I lived in San Diego, near the Marine base.. yeah, Marines.. my first words were jar head :)

I had a friend in college who got a black rose tattooed on her breast.

Then she had a baby.

And, ohhhhhhhh, that was one sad and wilted rose afterwards!

oh! I would DIE. Just DIE!!!! My fake daughter got a tattoo across her chest that says "faire L'amour" which, in case you forgot high school french, is "make love". And it's all in that ghetto cursive crap. WHY!?!?!! what happened to the little butterflies and stars on the ankle??
