New Discoveries Aid in the Mother/Daughter separation.

Things we discovered the day BEFORE we took Sassy to college.

1. We had forgotten to send the university the $200 housing deposit required for ALL incoming students – due a week ago.

2. While in a complete FAFSA fog, we had requested the WRONG amount for our Direct Parent Plus Loan for Sassy, and according to the university statement due YESTERDAY, we are short, oh, let’s say about ONE THOUSAND DOLLARS.

3. SASSY had neglected to fill out the FIVE online forms that her NEW COACH had emailed her a week ago to fill out BEFORE she checked in at school. Oh, and there were several that needed to be filled out and sent to the ATHLETIC DIRECTOR last week. Yeah. (This particular item reinforced the fact that I keep trying to convince Sassy of- that I AM her birth mother.)

4. We (when I am say we I really mean yours truly) forgot to pick up Sassy’s “allergy medicine” at the pharmacy before we left. I have instructed her NOT to make ANY new friends of the male persuasion, and there are to be NO sleepovers. (While I KNOW the medicine is for her PCOS, you can never humiliate your daughter enough in front of her new field hockey roommates.)

And then to make our somewhat stressful and hectic "delivery day" a complete success:

About 30 minutes into our drive HOME, Sassy called to let us know that her dorm keys were in Bitchy's Vera Bradley bag. In the back seat. With a sobbing and hysterical sister that we were ready to throw out the window. (That sobbing confirms, in fact, that I am HER birth mother.)

Oh, and if your husband decides to take a "short-cut" home? Odds are great it will turn a three hour ride into a 5.5 hour ride. This was, frankly, a brilliant move on his part. Not only did it completely negate my sadness at leaving Sassy at college, it cleverly diverted all my attention to him.

(One bitchy - one sassy = a crying, sobbing mess. They really DO love each other. Who knew?)

I'll be interested in hearing how many times she calls home, for no discernible reason.

So sweet about S & B loving each other. That's how it is. My 20 and 21 year olds are so close now. But a few years ago. Phew! Glad that's over. Of course my 9 and 11 year olds are coming up and you can see the teen crap building.

I assume that was the Sac airport, unless that luggage stacking is a common form of art amongst airports across the country. It's weird because my niece just posted a picture of that luggage as she's driving up to visit and landed there. And now I'm wondering if you know her and that's how I found your blog.

That would be weird. But not impossible.

Hang in there!

Cheers,

Casey

Mine have decided that they're only going to college if they can go to the wrestling one in Tampa. What are the odds that all THREE of my children get into wrestling? I'ma be a WWE mama!!!

When my mom lived within a half hour of my house, I saw her almost everyday. Now my mom is 500 miles away and right now, I miss her very much.

Sisters will surprise you sometimes. My sister & I had a not so minor disagreement on Tuesday and I was a blubbering mess all day yesterday. I knew I loved her, I just didn't realize how much.

That was so funny! It's amazing what it takes to get sibs to admit they kinda like each other. Sounds eventful, and it's only the beginning. LOL

Okay where on the FASFA was the "request" button? I was/am under the impression that you get what THEY THINK you need. Clearly their idea of a joke.

The Hubs over here prefers to keep moving even if it means adding miles to any/all road trips.

I have been witness to sibling love - once they leave for college, that is.

I have one who did not "check" something and we too are going to be $$$... That would be me you hear crying! LOL

Awwww. You mean to tell me that you didn't shed any tears?

It will be all worth it...no matter how much it costs. I hope she finds many adventures in college. (Good ones that her mom won't end up worrying about.)

My son leaves Saturday ... we're putting him on a plane and off he goes 3,000 miles away. *Sob*
My daughter leaves a week later but we are taking her 3,000 miles away because she needs help moving into her first apartment. I'm already sad. I'll be down to one kid at home. It's so hard as a parent ...

yesterday my eight year old boy declared he is NOT going to college because he doesn't want to leave me.

sweetie.

he's so out of here after high school.

you know what kills me about husband drivers? how they tell the GPS it is wrong. no husband. the GPS is right -- you are wrong.

sorry I am venting in your comments section.

hugs to you as you deal with your next getting emptier

be grateful you only have to do it once per child.....as long as they don't change schools. After the personal delivery to the second school, my mom warned me if I changed schools again, I would be out of the will.....and yeah, it took going to college in another state to make me and my sister realize we loved each other!

I honestly don't know how you survive the chaos of your daily life. I am somewhere between exhausted (just from reading about it) and euphoric (that I don't have to live it!)

Doing my part to keep the college co-eds like your Bitchy safe by keeping the young studs busy. (See yesterday and today's posts).

And hoping hubby ignores the GPS on his way home... time maybe for one more go-round with Hottie.

(Hope you'll dial in and catch up tonight. Easy on the checkbook 'cause it's free.)

EGB said...

Oh, damn, sorry, I meant Sassy. Those two are so hard to tell apart sometimes.

Captain Dumbass said...

It's all an act. Just wait until her first trip home.

Mrs. E said...

OK. Now I need a vodka martini! whew!

Joanie said...

Yeah, what the Cap'n said. She'll be home for 48 hours max, and you'll be ready to send her back!

Did I tell you that Dani is going back to her college town so she can pretend she's still a college student, but, in reality, will be going to hairdressing school?

Oh! And she's going to be living with 3 guys.(one is her boyfriend)

And her father is Ok with this.

And she doesn't have to pay rent (which is why her dad is Ok with this). Her contribution is to cook for all of them and CLEAN THE KITCHEN!!! LMAO!!!!!! These clowns have NO clue!!!

I think I'll turn this into a blog post of my own.

This is me right now!!!

Filling out health forms that were due in June. . . discovering incorrect tuition bills. . .needing to rush to open a bank account. . . begging doctors to renew prescriptions without office visits. . .

Look at it this way . . at least she's gone! Ponzi and Trigger are both due at their respective colleges next Saturday and I may not make it until then!

I thought I was spared what you are going through but I got it worse. If I tell you, will it make you feel better? sorry for me? glad you were not me? wish I had not mentioned it ?
My son went to University in the same state that we lived in.
We saw him weekends, holidays .. it was great..
Then he graduated.
I had visions of his being near us ... always.. ( we like him)
He went to Japan to teach English.
He was there for 7 years.
I am not telling you anymore now. That is enough for now.

It's not easy letting them go. Or shoving them out of the nest.

Chloe leaves for school on Saturday. It will be just a littler quieter around here.

Hugs and high fives!

I wish I had known about this last year. My girl is going into her second year and we have managed. I do still get sad at how quiet the house can be though.
