Really? REALLY?? Powers that be, are you really that bored that you have to KEEP messing with me?

Okay, let’s do a quick recap, shall we?

FIRST, I was brought into the principal’s office for the great news that I was now a member of the teacher relocation program.  I would be swiftly and painfully removed from my room and grade and my destination was a top TOP secret secret.

THEN, I came home from school Monday to find every sink, tub and basement full of water.  After two hours with two burly gentlemen from Rotor Rooter, I was informed that the problems SURELY involved the septic tank, and that they would return to COMPLETE and maybe fix the crazy mess they had created after the septic people showed up.  (I spent the night with a carpet cleaner sucking up what was ONCE water but now resembled disgusting gravy from most of the downstairs carpeting.

I woke up this morning, gathered my things to go shower at a friend’s house when I looked at the BRAND NEW CAR I was leasing – whose payment I just missed cause I have NO MONEY in my account.  NONE.

Flat tire.  TOTALLY and REALLY flat.

(AAA, please tell me that you’ll fix my tire for free………)

Oh, can someone call my school and tell them I’ll be late?  I’m not too afraid of being fired- cause I’m pretty sure I don’t TECHNICALLY work there anymore.

(Pssst… I’m Mr. Murphy’s illegitimate daughter.  But even HE wouldn’t’ claim me right about now.)

Shit. I'm growing more and more convinced that God (or somebody) is up there laughing his ass off at us. Shit always happens at the worst time, to the best people. That can't be coincidental.

Sorry for everything you're going through, and hoping for better days ahead.

This is a test.

I'm not kidding. I've been there - you've been there.

You are being tested. It's a time you have to hunker down, and learn from the situation.

Not sure what you're meant to learn.

You know what will happen:
- the s#!( will hit the fan
- your natural first reaction will be to ask "why me?" - this is a useless question - why NOT you?
- one way or another, this will pass. HOW it passes will depend on you and your character (I've been reading your blog for some time, and I believe that you have what it takes to have a lousy situation, and see the funny - no, it's NOT funny now, but in time...)
- later - a LOT later - you'll see the lesson clearly

In the meantime, reach out to friends. Treat yourself kindly. Write.

I'll do my part - I'll pray for you.

THere's nothing worse than floody things. Most other things I can cope with, but when I find water where it shouldn't be I tend to become hysterical or weepy, or both.

I totally think you rock - and maybe this is a sign for you to make your living from writing?

I am also wondering why you chose to lease a "new" car when you obviously can not afford the payments. That seems short sighted to me.

I know it is maybe hurtful/trollish for me to leave this comment - and I apologize because you are down right now, and should be encouraged. I know you need a car, and maybe could not afford a used one, so thought a lease with monthly payments (and hopefully less repairs) would be more cost efficient.

It just seems to me that you are not financially responcible - I know you are stuck paying for your ex etc, and that sucks, but you have always seemed to battle the 'broke' - so either you are a very poor financial manager, or you really want your readers to click the donate button. Which is fair, I mean, we do read your blog.

You somehow afforded airfare to go see that guy the other week (or did he pay for it - sorry, my memory isn't the best) - so if you missed your car payment that is totally YOUR choice and YOUR fault.

gulp...I'm a bit speechless right now.

don't want to respond, but will at least say this: I did not pay for the flight.

AND, many unexpected expenses come up that may or may not involve THREE CHILDREN.

And I will leave it at that.

I'm sure people think the same thing about me and my money but hey, not your life, MINE.

Don't tell me how to spend it and I won't tell you how much you need a nose job. Right, Vodka?

To Anonymous: I think you're kind of a dick. And a coward. Kicking somebody when they're down is cowardly enough, but you couldn't even grow a pair big enough to sign your name?

Ellie Belen Ambrose said...

Anonymous sounds like one of my relatives. Always "thinks" they know a person by the little they read or observe as though you have divulged in your blog every aspect of your life, personality, financial statements, children issues, dog issues, home repair issues, education issues, car issues and on and on. This self satisfied, judgmental, jerk of a person, that feels the need to wag a finger is exactly why they MUST stay anonymous, and will always be anonymous (non-entity) in the minds of most of the people they have contact with. Gee, do I sound pissed? Besides a teacher's salary equals raman noodles every night. Sigh.

Denise said...

Wow, it's easy to be so harsh when you don't sign your name. If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all - or that's what my mom says. I think it's true.

With any luck the worst is behind you - hope things improve in a big way - very soon!

Oh Vodka...I feel for you. I feel the same...down and just keep getting kicked. I just keep telling myself things will get better. I hope the same for you.

And Anonymous...I agree, if you do not have anything nice to say, do not say anything at all. She may share her life with us through this blog, but we do not know everything that goes on and nobody has the right to judge unless you are living her life.

Dear Anonymous:

I guess Vodka should have her daughters drop out of college and go to work at minimum-wage jobs with not much future, and maybe her teenage son can get a paper route or two. Maybe she could have a big yard sale (oh, wait, she's done that). Maybe her ex could get a job. Maybe she shouldn't spend a dime on school supplies for the kids she teaches. Maybe when I came to visit her, she should have told me to bring my own food and charged me for the shower I took.

Maybe you should, uh, mind your own business?

Crankily yours,
Sara

Anyone who posts as Anonymous is a coward and hides behind that name to post something sh*tty.
If you don't have the balls to post under a name, then F* Off.

Now, back to the story -
Vodka, sweetheart, this is gonna be one of those cases of Trouble comes in 3's or something like that. Happens to us every few years.
Like right now if fact... we are preparing to sell and leave and what happens ? The old bag upstairs had another leak.
She had no damage in her apt, our ceiling and walls had to be repaired.

Best thing I can say to be comforting (if that were only possible ! ) is to say that Good Things will happen again. They always do. love you.

To the Anonymous person that was rude enough to verbally defecate in Vodkamom's sacred space: May you understand the literal meaning of "learning the hard way".
Take your thoughtless words elsewhere and learn some compassion.

I kind of like what Linda said. I've never really thought that way but it makes sense to say "why not me" instead of "why me." Like she said, you certainly have shown that you have the character to make it through this shitty time. I wish I had lots of money because the smiles you bring to so many people are certainly worth more than some teachers are making on teachers pay teachers. Fellow commenters, please don't jump on me...I'm all for teachers making money. I just come to Vodka Mom's blog first:) Take care of yourself VM. I'll bet you will find that you will look back and say "thank God things happened the way they did."

Hi Vodka,
If I could write as well as you, I too would have a blog because yours inspires me every day--read that as YOU inspire me every day. I am sorry that all the support we readers are sending can not be financial. I believe that
saying,"this too shall pass" but damn I know you wish it would hurry up and pass already. Stay strong and remember you are loved around the world. Sarah
