He’s proving my wrong every *@&#^ step of the way. (bastard) Remember the days when we used to
say that all men were bastards? Remember that? (Sigh…good times.) I sure do. We would laugh about it at work or at
happy hour, or when we were chatting at various sporting events. For the MOST part, I think we all
kind of believed it. Well, I
certainly did- but that’s another story.
I've kissed a few handsome frogs since then, and it's been quite an
adventure.
And then I met him; and
didn’t he just have to prove me wrong.
1.
He opens the doors. STILL. ALL THE
DOORS. I’ve paid close attention
to everyone and anyone I can see in every parking lot or store I go to – and not many people do that. He does.
2.
He won’t raise his voice. Oh sure, he yells at the television
when the referees are clearly blind,
or when Sassy’s team is playing a rousing game, or when his son is playing a
basketball game- but other than that,
I don’t think he’s ever raised his voice; at least not to me. (Frankly, I feel like the wicked witch
of the west... I need Yelling Rehab.)
3.
He tells me how incredibly beautiful and sexy I
am even when I’ve CLEARLY gained weight after breaking my hip, and feel like a
bloated, beached whale that is waiting for an army to push her back out to
sea. I feel disgusting, and he
sees someone entirely
different. How can that be? HOW?
4.
He always has the right thing to say when I call
crying after The Golden Boy and I
have had yet another painful
interaction. He reminds me about
what a boy that age is feeling, and helps me glue my heart back together. He
guides me gently back to the high road, grabs my hand and walks with me.
5.
He adores both Bitchy and Sassy, even after
they’ve shown their true colors.
He loves their spunk, their sass, their honesty, their faults and their
gifts. He appreciates how
different they are, and enjoys every minute of their company. (Cheezus, I’m afraid he likes them more
than I do…)
6.
He works 24/7. Yeah. He has a J-O-B. A real one! But here’s the downside. You know how someone who shall not be
named might not have worked for a long, long time? Well, I lucked into the opposite. Mr. Darcy, the “boss” (so to speak) at his place of
employment, works almost 7 days a week. He has an amazing work ethic. While this is to be commended, it has made it challenging for us to get together as
often as we would like.
I know I’ve said that when I met someone special he had to
have TWO important qualities: a
pulse and a JOB. I just didn’t
want the job to be a 1,000/hour a week gig.
See? Be CAREFUL
what you wish for, cause sometimes, sometimes
you get it.
(P.S. You just have to
be able to give that prince a chance to show his true colors. And when he does, it’s blinding; beautiful,
lovely and blinding.)
(I hesitate to share TOO much about my lovely relationship
with the incredible Mr. Darcy, for a variety of reasons. First and foremost, I
respect his privacy and wouldn’t want to compromise that in any way shape or
form. Secondly, I am PRETTY sure
that my children and perhaps even his
are well aware of this blog. Some
things should remain a magical, lovely secret – most especially from THEM. p.s.s.)
