Very Important Questions!!!

Since it's a Saturday and I don't have a post today, I thought I'd ask the blogosphere a question.

I always try to respond to people who visit via email- if your comments are linked to your email address.  ( I highly recommend this, by the way.)  If I can't do that, I will often visit the blog of the person who left the comment. This will be much easier this summer when I have a tad more time on my hands.

However, I do notice that people respond to comments by commenting on their own blog.  Do all of you do that?   Is that what people like?  Do you ever go back and visit blogs to see if the author comments?? Is posting every day too often?  How often do you post?  Is Santa real? Why is the sky blue?  How do those huge planes REALLY get up in the air?  Why can't I win the lottery?

If you could leave some suggestions I would greatly appreciate it...you may return to your regularly scheduled program...

I've tried everything and settled on nothing!

The best I can do is post almost-everyday and comment on other's blogs.

Everything else is reserved for the day I have extra time on my hands.

I try to go back to see if the author comments but I don't always. And I don't think it's fair to comment on your own blog about comments on somebody else's blog unless you're good friends and read each others' blogs all the time anyway.

Posting every day is absolutely NOT too often! I love your numerous posts!

KIDDING!!! Sorry, even tho I know everything I don't know these answers

people respond to comments by commenting on their own blog. Do all of you do that? YES, I TRY TO. AND/OR EMAIL THEM IF THEY HAVE AN ADDRESS.

Is that what people like? I HOPE SO.

Do you ever go back and visit blogs to see if the author comments?? SOMETIMES, BUT NOT OFTEN.

Is posting every day too often? How often do you post? DAILY...SO FAR.

Is Santa real? YES, VIRGINIA.

Why is the sky blue? BECAUSE IT'S THE PRETTIEST COLOR.

How do those huge planes REALLY get up in the air? AN INVISIBLE GIANT THROWS THEM UP IN THE AIR WHEN HE'S FEELING GENEROUS.

Why can't I win the lottery? GRASSHOPPER, YOU MUST FIRST BUY TICKET!

I generally post every other day. This sort of evolved by way of how the pattern of comment goes. On my blog I'll get a flurry of comments the first day and it seems like half as much on the next day, so I plan it that a new post comes out about the time the comments taper off to a trickle.

Regarding responding to comments... if someone leaves me a comment I try to leave one on theirs, but can't always seem to manage it. I definitely respond to anyone who has the email setting on, but most people don't.

Right now I'm also trying to figure out how to handle all this, so your post is timely for me!

Regarding going back to see if the author commented on my comments... rarely. There's one exception and that's Shawn over at the Shark Tank because his responses to comments are almost always hilarious.

I just post whenever I'm feeling it. Sometimes twice a day, sometimes every few days. I don't want to make blogging into something forced.

I guess I don't respond to comments usually unless they are directly asking for a response. Maybe I'm stupid, almost every time I have tried to do that, the address shows up as "no reply@blahblahblah"??

And I have cramps REALLY bad right now. Just thought you would want to know that. :o)

I reply to comments on my own blog on the same post, as do a lot of people. I don't need to worry about going back to check if they've replied because I subscribe to follow up comments and so I get emails for this. The only problem is if this blogger literally gets hundreds of comments on a post, but once you've read their reply you can easily unsubscribe from the comment feed. That's what I like, personally.

Sometimes I do a full post more than once a day but that's more because my blog is more for me than anything, and I think it's best to post no more than once a day, which is perfectly fine. Especially coming from a writer like you! ;P

I post, well, way too much at times, and at others, not nearly regularly enough.

As for the other questions, umm I'll leave those to other commenters haha.

With the exception of weeks like last week, when I was in D.C. thanking my lucky stars we were at the Holocaust museum on Monday instead of Wednesday, I post 5 days a week, Monday - Friday. I take the weekends off.

I sometimes respond to comments in the comment section of my blog if I have time and something to say. If someone asks me a direct question, I email them (since I use WordPress, email addresses are required to comment). If I comment on the blog of a person I know responds to their comments, I'll go back and see what they have to say. Sometimes I go back to see other comments, even if they don't.

Santa Claus better be real, or I'll have to start questioning my own existence, and we REALLY don't want that.

Michele said...

If they leave a comment that I can respond to I do, if they don't leave an email address than I try to visit their blog to leave a thank you for visiting comment. If all the comments ask the same kind of question I answer that with a comment or update the blog. So short story long. I use a combo but then I don't have a zillion readers/commenters per day.

Amy Sue Nathan said...

There are certain blogs I revisit to see the reply to my comment. When someone leaves a comment on my blog I either comment in the comments section or via email. I always respond in some way. I think that if the post warrants discussion, then commenting on the blog involves the blogger with the readers and starts that fabulous internet roundtable. If the post comments are observations, agreements or dissentions -- maybe "I understand" or "oh that was funny" then a blogger doesn't have to say "thanks" or "glad you liked it" to everyone on the blog, he or she can do it via email. Some bloggers reply to some online and perhaps some via email. I think of blogs as interactive.

When there's no reply at all (isn't that a song?) I wonder if the blogger is even paying attention.

Rick Daley said...

Do all of you do that?
I respond to email via email, to comments via comments.

Is that what people like?
I think email is a private forum, comments public. For the comments, it's fun to read the thread and it gives other people the chance to join in.

Do you ever go back and visit blogs to see if the author comments?
Hell yes, especially on very crowded or popular blogs. I need to feed my ego somehow.

Is posting every day too often?
For me it is. The real question is "Is reading a post every day too often?"

How often do you post?
About once a week, on average.

Is Santa real?
Santa Clause is a real imaginary character.

Why is the sky blue?
The refraction of light through the atmosphere.

How do those huge planes REALLY get up in the air?
The forward thrust forces air under the wings due to their aerodynamic design, creating lift.

Why can't I win the lottery?
You never buy a ticket.

I try and post most days, but I am extremely busy and usually just throw up a silly video I found or something like that. I used to comment in my own comments to let people know I read them, but then I started reading way more people than I can keep up with. So, it is a vicious circle this blogging, addictive and a time suck. But I love it and the wonderful people I have met out here (like you).

Unless it is a hot topic I never go back and check out the comments again. If someone leaves me a comment I will return the favor and visit their latest post and leave them a comment.

My life isn't all that exciting so I post whenever the mood strikes. I don't want this to be a competition or a job.

I respond to a comment via e-mail. I know you have tons more comments than me, but it's nice to know that you've read the comment.
I believe this also keeps your readers faithful and forms a sense of kin/friendship. Everyone needs those, right?

Glad you're finally into summer vaca. The school year can be grinding.

I rarely check back on comments to read the blogger's response. I follow way too many blogs, and can barely keep up with current posts.

I like to respond personally to comments via email if I have an address, if not I just leave a comment on that blogger's blog.

I wish I had time to blog everyday, but I post when I can.

1. I respond to comments in my comments.
2. Many people (the regulars) do come back to check.
3. Post as much as you can.
4. I post whenever I have a descent post idea (and lots of other times too).
5. Yes, Santa is real.
6. has to do with the atmosphere and light bending.
7. They sprinkle Santa's magic reindeer dust on the wings.
8. You have to guess the right numbers first.
Suggestion = Visit my blog all the time to boost my ego.

You beat me to the punch! I have wondered this myself. If I can remember, I will go back to the other persons blog and see what their reply is, but like you, there are a lot of blogs I visit daily.

I don't check the box for email followup comments on others' blogs, because EVERYONE'S comments come through. I get notified via my phone of mew emails.. this would just drive e nuts.

On my own blog, I will comment to the person and, if I haven't visited that person's blog already that day, I will go and give em some love.

Good question! I am glad you posed it

As to your other questions, sometimes I go back to a blog to see if that person left me a comment to my comment.

I try to post every day but I miss some days.

Of course Santa is real!

I have an answer to one of your questions..

Why is the sky blue?
On a clear sunny day, the sky above us looks bright blue. In the evening, the sunset puts on a brilliant show of reds, pinks and oranges. Why is the sky blue? What makes the sunset red?

To answer these questions, we must learn about light, and the Earth's atmosphere.

THE ATMOSPHERE

The atmosphere is the mixture of gas molecules and other materials surrounding the earth. It is made mostly of the gases nitrogen (78%), and oxygen (21%). Argon gas and water (in the form of vapor, droplets and ice crystals) are the next most common things. There are also small amounts of other gases, plus many small solid particles, like dust, soot and ashes, pollen, and salt from the oceans.

The composition of the atmosphere varies, depending on your location, the weather, and many other things. There may be more water in the air after a rainstorm, or near the ocean. Volcanoes can put large amounts of dust particles high into the atmosphere. Pollution can add different gases or dust and soot.

The atmosphere is densest (thickest) at the bottom, near the Earth. It gradually thins out as you go higher and higher up. There is no sharp break between the atmosphere and space.

LIGHT WAVES

Light is a kind of energy that radiates, or travels, in waves. Many different kinds of energy travel in waves. For example, sound is a wave of vibrating air. Light is a wave of vibrating electric and magnetic fields. It is one small part of a larger range of vibrating electromagnetic fields. This range is called the electromagnetic spectrum.

Electromagnetic waves travel through space at 299,792 km/sec (186,282 miles/sec). This is called the speed of light.

I'm pretty new to this blogging thing so not sure what the right protocol is. I usually respond to comments that people leave on my blog, on my blog but not always one by one but a more general comment a couple of times. I make comments when I visit people's blogs but rarely go back to see if they commented on my comment. If someone emails me directly, I try to respond back to that email directly. Please do tell if I am handling this the proper way because us Southerners want to insure we are exercising proper blogging etiquette. Mama had no guidance on this one.

For the most part I respond in my comments section, unless it is a question that doesn't really pertain to that post... then I send them an e-mail so as not to bore all of my other readers.

I respond to comments as a commentor on my own blog. I know some people address each comment individually in a long response. If most of the comments seem to be related, I make a general response.

I do go back to see if the blog author responded to my comment - if I have time.

You've got so many followers and commentors on every post, I don't see how it would be possible address everyone individually. I, with my following of only 60, get less than 15 comments per post so it's less time consuming.

It's your blog, do what you want :)

OH jeez, c'mon, this is like WORK...

Bloody hell.

OK:

Daily if you want; it works for me when it's something of substance, not blogging for the hell of it. I hate wasting time reading posts that are just that: "dutiful."

Comments? I go back if there's something HAPPENING in the comments. People often write and tell me they love what goes on in my comments, if I'm in a punchy mood and someone's taking the bait, we can have a whole thing going. It all depends, but generally I don't go back, only if it's happening;

Shit, now I'm in your comment box and can't recall the questions.

Oh!! The blue sky? Cos Krishna is BLUE!!! ha! You didn't expect THAT did ya??

mwah. vodkas all round. yay.

Oh and just so you're sure, that last one? It meant "free drinks for all," not "Vodka is so round and fat" or something.

Er...can I go now please?

Except for a brief period earlier this spring, I've always posted every other day.

I do go back to blogs I've visited to see if my comment was responded to. If it wasn't, I usually don't get bothered by the lack of respnse, simply because most of the blogs I currently visit I was able to figure out long ago what the particular blogger's habit was in responding to the comments on their blog.

And yes, I respond to each and every comment that is made on my blog. I figure that if the person took the time to comment on a particular post, I should take the time and give a thoughtful (or humorous depending on the type) reply to it.

Kim said...

I try to e-mail back to a commenter or visit their blog. I rarely go back to re-read comments to see if the author posted a response.

Posting every day is not too much but certainly not a requirement.

Those other questions are way above my intellect to answer, except that with Santa I know many who say "If you don't believe, you don't receive." I hope that helps!

If someone has asked me a specific question or their comment was particularly funny I email. Or if I'm super busy and don't have time to go to their blog. Or if I go back to their blog and they haven't posted since the last time I was there.

I used to comment on my own blog, but since I don't have time to go back and check if others have responded to mine I don't expect the same of them.

I can barely keep up with my blog list and comments, I have no idea how you manage.

In blogger, it made me nuts when people didn't have their email enabled. How in the hell did they expect me to talk to them if I couldn't hit reply from my email.

That, doesn't mean I respond to every comment, I have a crazy life. BUT when I wanted to and I couldn't, it pissed me off.

Switching to Wordpress has allowed me to have everyone's email.... I love it.

Some things I respond to in the comment section, like if its a question related to the post. If not, I can't imagine, or expect everyone to have the time in the day to keep checking back to see if I commented to them in my comment section.

About those planes..... I don't even like to think about it.

I try to respond to the comments on my blog right in comments, but I have been an utter slacker with that for a little while now. Life has a way of getting in the way, which I suppose is good if the parts that are getting in the way are good! A couple of people with blogs I comment on respond via email, and those who don't, when I visit their blog on their next post, I'll often go back and check comments.

If posting every day is something you wish to do, that's what you should do. Personally, I try to post three times a week. Sometimes I only muster it up twice. All depends on my life, mood, and what's going on.

As for Santa - I want to believe, but I believe more strongly that I spend a lot of time at Target ever December doing his dirty work.

The sky - Right now, here, it's slowly becoming more blue, but right now, I haven't seen any planes in it to study them. If I won the lottery, I'd spend a lot of time out on the deck gazing skyward to do that kind of in-depth research!

I post every day to make myself look at each day as it has a story to be told, AND selfishly to promote my business! I don't get any of the comment stuff and all that, although I try hard to understand. Keep posting every day, your readers obviously love you, I always check for a post. Santa is real, duh! The sky is blue to keep us smiling, and the planes, same thing, I just don't get it. I don't live far from the Long Beach airport so some afternoons I sit by my pool with a Corona and my ipod and ponder that exact same thought, "how in the hell do those huge planes fly". Sue

I'm really bad in general about responding to comments, but when I do, yes, I respond in the comments section on my blog. I sort of assume most people check the box for "e-mail comments" when they leave a comment, so I assume that my response in the comments will reach them. I just don't have the time to respond via e-mail, unless they specifically ask me to and leave an e-mail address (or e-mail me, in which case I reply).

Sometimes, when I get several comments on a post that I want to respond to (all saying the same thing) I will do a follow up blog post addressing them - which I actually just did. I don't do it often. Then I figure they will definitely see it since they are regular blog readers.

But in general, I'm just bad responding to comments. But I also don't have any expectations that other bloggers will respond to MY comments, so I figure it's fair enough. :)

Lin said...

I do comment back on the comments I receive--right there in the comments section. I find there is an exchange and a "group" feeling because people are reading the other comments. I find readers enjoy the comment back and they do come back to read and re-comment. I actually revisit those blogs who comment back--but you have to show others that you are reading their comments and the email thing doesn't show that. (Gees, how many times did I use the word "comment" in that paragraph???!)

I post every single day, although I'm taking the weekends off from the blog during the summer months. I need to have a life and am encouraging others to do the same.

I can't win the lottery either. Sigh.

I schedule a lot of my posts in advance because I can always get on the computer, I don't want to get on the computer or my husband needs help finding the milk in the refrigerator.

Does this taste funny to you?

I only respond to comments if the person has asked a question, otherwise I don't. But then, I don't have very many people reading my blog...I know this because I hardly get any comments. Ha.
When reading someone elses blog, I do at times go back to see if the person has responded but only if I really want to and am interested in getting a response. Some of the blogs I am currently following have so many readers that by the time I check back there are 200+ comments so I'm sure mine is lost in the muddle. I also won't comment if everyone seems to be saying the same thing and I feel the same. I feel that it's a waste of the authors time to just repeat what everyone else has said just to have your name in the comment box.
I have to say that I love the cute things the kids you teach come up with. Those kinds of things make your day for sure.

Good Morning,
It seems there's some sort of etiquette in this I don't understand. If you comment on my blog, I'll usually go to yours to respond. I don't mention my own blog when I go to others(feels self serving). I post when I feel inspired to write. I guess I'm writing for me, and if somebody else likes it, nice. But, I look forward to yours anytime you write. I visit to see if the author comments on my comment. Santa made the sky blue and the planes fly and decides who wins the lottery.

I usually go their blog and leave them an answer. Rarely do I go back to see if they have left an answer, why? Because I usually can't remember which blog I had a question on (happens when you read +20 blogs almost daily). No, I don't think posting daily is too much. I only post when I think I have something worth reading, so may be weekly, or just whenever and really as busy as everyone is that seems sufficient.
The rest of the questions I think the posters before me took care of. Have a great weekend.

As for posting, I just do it if I have something to say. But I start panicking if I go three or more days without a post because I'm afraid I'll have nothing to say ever again, and that I've lost my bloggy touch! *gasp* But, you know, then someone IRL will say something stooOOooOOoopid to me and viola I have instant bloggy inspiration again! I do try to comment back to everyone who comments on my blog. Many come back to follow the conversation. If you check the little box that says "Email follow-up comments to...." then you don't actually have to re-visit the page. I always do this! IF I have something else to say I will go back and comment again, if not, then at least I know how they responded and they know how I responded (does that make sense?)

I posted everyday for a very long time and that is the best way to gain a steady audience. It's not always possible, so sometimes I will post an oldie but goodie. My blog is 3 years old. My new readers have never read some of the old stuff and it works out nicely. However, I'm trying to get away from blogging on the weekend (yes, and it's Saturday now, see how I'm doing???!) because I would like to have a life. Except that...me-not-having-life is the subject of my posts most of the time (sigh).

Peace globe blogging and promoting keeps me ultra busy when I'm not trying to be funny on my own blog and then there's Dating Profile Of The Day (I am so behind on that site right now)...I have too many blogs!!!

What a minute? What was the question?

Scope said...

1) When I comment back, it's in the comment section. I only get 10 - 15 comments a day, it I'm lucky, so I figure that people may well scan all the other comments, and it adds to the conversational tone.

2) Is that what people like? I honestly have no idea. I only read a couple blogs where the bloggers respond via email, and I like those too, because it tends to be a bit more personal.

3) Do you ever go back and visit blogs to see if the author comments? - For most blogs that I comment on, I click the "[X] Email follow-up" box down there V to get all the responses. But I don't do that on your blog. Did it once or twice, got burried in the blizzard of responses, and got the feel for how you operate, and realized it that wasn't necessary. You respond outside the comments section, so I really don't need to follow it.

4) Is posting every day too often? No, especially since many of your posts tend to be bite sized. Not saying I don't like the longer posts, too, but 10,000 word essays every day would get a bit much.

5) How often do you post? Four or five times a week, I would guess. Rarely twice a day, but I just did yesterday, because I realized I hadn't made a digital TV transition joke, and didn't want to send that out on a Saturday.

6) Is Santa real? Only if you believe.

7) Why is the sky blue? It all has to do with how the atmosphere scatters light.

8) How do those huge planes REALLY get up in the air? I think it has something to do with satelites and magnets, but that's just a theory.

9) Why can't I win the lottery? Why can't I even win under a pop cap.

** And how many people click on links in the comment section of a blog? :-)

I get my comments in email and then I like through and try to comment back on their blog (because everyone loves comment and traffic, you know?) I never ever even look at the comments except in email form. And, I never leave responses in my own blog. I know people do, but I don't get it.

Jenn @ Juggling Life said...

If it is something I feel necessitates a personal response I do it via e-mail (this doesn't happen very often). Of course, I have follow-up conversations with people that have gone from being commenters to blog friends.

If someone comments I will always visit their blog at least once. If they are a regular commenter I will, at minimum, visit them every few days.

Sometimes I go back to read comments on a post that seems like it would generate good conversation.

I post 5-6 days a week, but that's just 'cause I enjoy it so much.

I'm totally understanding when really popular bloggers on whose blogs I comment don't stop by very often, but if Bossy can come by once in a while everyone but Dooce and The Pioneer Woman ought to be able to also--I think it is just polite.

I think that if you respond to people in your comments there is a good chance they will never read your response.

As you can see, you asked the right person if you want opinions!

Boy.. umm.. this cleared up nothing.... ahhhh! Now you've confused me as to what the heck I should do too. I actually hate in when people just respond to a question on their blog. That would turn your life into blogger hell! I think a quick reply back via email when it strikes you is groovy! We love you!

I'm one of those that responds to comments on my own blog. I do this because I think if people take the time to read my post and comment on it, I should respond. (For whatever reason, my email company won't let me set it up to email responses like you do.) But then I realized that a lot of people like to read the comments about the comments, so I'll continue in this manner.

As far as returning to blog posts; when I'm interested, I always check the 'subscribe via email' thingie and that way, I can see how everyone comments.

For me, posting everyday is impossible; I average twice weekly.

I definitely think Santa is real, in my heart anyway.

I believe he sky is blue because it reflects the oceans and seas; don't ask why is the water blue, please.

How planes get up in the air has always been a huge mystery to me; when you find out, please share.

You probably can't win the lottery for the same reason I can't; you don't buy a winning ticket.

Great questions, except maybe for the last few.

>However, I do notice that people respond to comments by commenting on their own blog. Do all of you do that? Is that what people like? Do you ever go back and visit blogs to see if the author comments??

I used to reply to every comment on my blog, by commenting afterwards. It never turned into a 'proper' conversation so now I only write in the comments if (a) someone has specifically asked a question, or (b) a comment prompts me to realise I wish I'd given more information (but then I might just edit the post).

I almost never go back to see if someone has responded to one of my comments, unless I know that the person in question usually does.

>Is posting every day too often? How often do you post?

I post almost every day, and I don't think it's too often. But I also read plenty of blogs which come out less frequently. I think you just have to do what fits in with your life.

>Is Santa real?

Someone has to buy those presents!

>Why is the sky blue? How do those huge planes REALLY get up in the air?

I could answer these, but it would be easier to draw some diagrams on the back of an envelope, so drop round for coffee and ask me again! :)

>Why can't I win the lottery?

You only *can't* win the lottery if you don't buy a ticket. Otherwise - you just *haven't*.

Right, I think that's everything.......... You have more readers than anyone else, anyway, so I don't know why you're asking us :p

i only post like once or twice a week. i so don't have enough funny in me to post everyday. sometimes i email responses to people, sometimes i respond as a comment in my blog. i'm still trying to figure out what works best. i do check back at blogs to see if the author left a comment though. have a fun summer!

I do not comment back on my own blog. I find that that isn't good. I never go back to see if someone commented back to me on their blog. Don't have the time. I don't comment back by email. I feel like if they went through the trouble of commenting on my blog then I will go and comment on their blogs. Because I think that's what everyone wants for you to come and read their blog and comment back. To me that is what blogging is about.

I use to just post during the week now I find that I am posting on the weekends. I have done two or three posts in a day before. So it depends on what's going on.

I too try to correspond personally and privately with all my commenters. The first time a person visits my blog and leave a comment, they get an email from me thanking them for stopping by and taking the time to express their thoughts. I have always done this, and will continue to do so.

If the post is one where I anticipate an ongoing conversation in the comments section, then I'll generally reply there, and follow-up with an email letting that person know that I have responded to their input in the comments section.

If the post is just "hey, enjoy this!", then I'll leave my replies for the email.

So, yeah, I send a lot of email. And for someone with as many commenters as you, I imagine this would be very very time consuming.

As I wrote in a recent post, I blog for reasons that are different than most. I am trying to build a community, and doing that takes communication. For me, it's worth the investment . . .

As for my visits to other blogs . . . If I've left a comment, and I see a new post pop up in my reader, I'll generally visit the old post as well to see if a reply to my response has been left in the comments. If I've asked a question, or left a comment that begs a reply, I'll try and check back sooner.

I have no answers to your other questions, so I'll leave you with a question of my own, one that has been haunting me quite a bit as of late . . . How do they get Teflon to stick to the skillet if nothing sticks to Teflon?

Peace!

Just as famous Hollywood stars have to deal with the swarms of fans and papparazzi....a great blogger must face the issues of dealing with her commenters.

I don't have that problem....as I only have 3 readers...who very rarely comment. But I think it must be modern day ettiquette to respond. I say first, email if you can. But comment back on your own blog if you can't.

And I am somewhat bi-polar when it comes to posting. I either have nothing to say. Or 5 posts worth of junk. And now I feel like I need a photo to go with the story....because that's certainly how I read People. Scan the photos, then go back and read...

I think the bloggers that are selling ads and have to blog 5 times a week are earning their money. That's pressure. And pressure and creativity don't always mix.

You are a joy to read. So real. So funny. And sometimes I shed a tear for you. Keep up the good work. And for those other questions....ask your kids and post their answers. And if they say Santa isn't real...set them straight!

I did comment on comments in the beginning. I was inconsistent though and I didn't know if anyone was checking back for my comments, so I stopped. I will respond by email to some. Maybe I should do that more often - I know I like it when I get an email back.

As far as posting - I aim for a few times a week - not always successfully. Plus now with the whole privacy thing my comments are few and far between *sob*.

I don't think posting every day is too much when you are someone (like you) who get a ton of comments. I tend to wait a few days since that seems to drive up the comments.

Vodka Logic said...

Wow now that is a way to get comments.

I would just like to see a few comments on some of my blogs.

As for how often. I blog when I have something to say or a new poem pops in my head. Sometimes it is just a picture.

I respond to the comments as a comment on my blog. Most of the people that comment are people I know.

I try to remember to go back and read if there is a comment but I dont always.

My question to you is how do you even read 63 comments? I only average `5-20 so sometimes I answer questions of comment back on my blog. But I have way too much time on my hands.

Fragrant Liar said...

I have been wondering about this myself. My name when I comment is hyperlinked to my blogsite (right?). But I don't get comments from you that way, I don't think. Or email for that matter, so I don't know.

I do know that when I want to respond to comments on my site, it's a pain when there are many. Sometimes I get so busy at work and so behind on comments that I will leave a group comments. It's so hard to keep up . . .

It makes no sense to me when people respond on my blog to a comment I left on their blog. No one else reading my blog would understand that kind of random and unrelated comment anyway.

Sometimes I'll go back to revisit a blog to see how the author might have responded to my comment, but not often.

I post 3-4 times a week generally. That's about as often as I can get around to other blogs too.

I think those are all the answers I have today, such as they are. :)

a mouthy irish woman? ridiculous! said...

sometimes i do all of the above. time is a factor.

CSquaredPlus3 said...

I've wondered about all of these questions too! I think the answers are as varied as the bloggers and there's no "one best way". It depends on who's reading, who's commenting, and quantity of comments. I with Captain Dumbass... I don't know how you manage to get around as well as you do!

I can't keep up with bloggers who post daily, but there are readers who aren't bloggers that probably look forward to it. Again... so many variables. Whatever YOU're doing is working for you! :-)

Judi said...

Hi there....
That's a fully loaded question! I'm often faced with this. Although I do not have any hard and fast rules. As with all things--I go by the seat of my pants! Typically, I do not go back to see if the author comments. I may be missing stuff....huh????
Having said that--I sincerely appreciate it when someone emails me a response to a comment I leave on their blog. (Thank You Vodka Mom for doing that!) It's always a happy surprise but never expected. In my case-- unless someone asks a very specific question of me--I don't typically respond via email if they post a comment to my blog (I do not know the proper etiquette perhaps). And, usually, I do not post a comment to my own blog (maybe I did once or twice, I don't recall). However, I do have lots of readers who--for whatever reason--do not post a comment. Instead, they email me each day a personal comment that you would typically put on my blog. Many of the personal email commenters may not want to comment because they are talking about personal stuff (weight loss, Lapband--which is what my blog tends to be about) or because I know them personally from some of the obesity or weight loss surgery support groups/forums....many folks in that community know each other quite well and may prefer not to "be out there" with their questions or problems or issues. In those cases, I may respond via email back to them if there's a question (which I get so many of them...perhaps because of the nature of my blog!) or if they need specific support.
In any case....I figure if it's your blog so you can do what you want and in the manner that most suits you. I have to commend YOU if you respond to all commenters! You have so many!!!
As for all those other life questions---who the hell knows the answers. And, I honestly don't think my brain is big enough to hold all the answers if I could even figure them out! My mind is pretty much cluttered with the useless things I need to survive....
Yeah, I'm a huge help!!!

I post M-F usually and take the weekends off so I don't burn out. I almost never return to a blog to see if the author has responded to comments. I usually don't reply back in my own comment section either unless I think my response will help clarify something for other readers. I do try to visit the blogs of those who comment on mine, but I'm not always so great at that .... like this week with my surgery. I'm way behind on reading, commenting, everything ....

You just posted a subject I've been wanting to post, but hadn't yet. I've always responded to people via email if I had their email, or by going to their blog, like you mention. But then I noticed the same thing as you, people responding by leaving comments on their own blog.

What I like about this 2nd method is that they answer questions that other readers have asked, and then everyone gets to see those answers. I just decided yesterday to switch to this method, so I'll be doing a post soon to let my readers be aware of this.

But I will still respond via email and visit everyone else's blogs to comment in the meantime. Sometimes it is just difficult to find the time to get around to everyone's blog, esp now that it's summer and we are spending more time outdoors.

Sometimes I go back to a blog where I left a comment to see how the author responded, sometimes I don't remember to do so.

Regarding posts, I usually post 3-5 times a week. I have two blogs (the "regular" one and a photo blog) so there's alot of work involved keeping them both going.

NOW -- are you going to tabulate all these results for us and summarize them in your next post?! LOL

I don't have any exact time table for posting...and finally the last time I checked... there was a Santa Claus eating ccokies by my Christams tree.

I LOVE all these ideas!! I just wanted to remind people to link up their email to their "handles" on their "edit profile" section of their blog. This allows people to respond to you directly via email!

Rambling Rachel said...

If I comment on a particularly controversial or intriguing topic, I may check the box "email follow-up comments to [address]." Then I would know if you've responded back to me.

In some ways going to their blog and commenting on their last post interrupts the conversation. However, I like it because I'm comment hungry and something is better than nothing.

anymommy said...

I use to comment in my comments all the time. Then I realized how much I forget to check back for responses when I comment and I stopped. Now I email if I can and visit blogs as much as possible.

Unless, I ask for opinions or post something controversial and there's a comment discussion going on.

I did not know about the email/handle thing. I'm going to check that, bet I haven't done it!

i respond to people via email or visiting their blog. once upon a time i responded on my own blog, beneath their comment... but then i realized that i don't usually go back to where i left a comment and look for a response, so why would other people??? so i stopped doing it that way :-)

Kate Coveny Hood said...

I stopped doing that when I decided that people didn't come back or subscribe to comments. But I see it all the time. Sometimes if I know that the writer responds in comments, I'll check back - but usually, I forget.

I have one blog that I only post on Fridays with 4 followers and don't get many, if any comments to respond to.

On my craft blog I'll post as often as I complete a project (which should be more often considering the amount of $ I have in craft supplies!) Again, not a lot of followers or comments. When I do get a comment, if there is a question posed I'll e-mail the commentor, otherwise, I try to make a point of visiting their blog (if they have one) and leave comments there. It's the "Get a Comment/Leave a Comment" approach.

What is a bit annoying is when I get a lot of visitors/hits on projects that someone has cased elsewhere and I'll have over 200 visitors in a day and no comments.

How would you find the time to read all these comments and respond to everyone? You'd have to have the fastest wit and fingers that I know of!!!

However, I do notice that people respond to comments by commenting on their own blog. Do all of you do that? I try to, but it's not always easy to keep up. Is that what people like? Dunno, but I noticed people doing it, so I started doing it. It gets people to either check back by visiting over and over or getting the people to get follow up e-mails so that a "conversation" starts. Do you ever go back and visit blogs to see if the author comments?? Yes, I do. Sometimes the "conversations" get interesting. Is posting every day too often? It is for me, but if the posts are short and sweet, and it's what you like to do, who cares? How often do you post? Two or three times per week. Is Santa real? Why wouldn't she be? Of course, I think she's a hot looking Asian chick. Why is the sky blue? Because it's my favorite color. How do those huge planes REALLY get up in the air? Magic and fabulous brains from the likes of my husband The Engineer. Why can't I win the lottery? Because I'm going to!

Oh, and feel free to visit my blog or respond to me via e-mail anytime; my e-mail address is linked to my profile name and always has been. *grin*

This is way too much work for my first day back in the real world. Seriously.

However - I respond to comments in my comments because someone once blasted me for the emails. They liked coming back to see what I said to everyone - so I usually do it. Not always - but usually.

And yes, Santa is real.

And I don't know what else you wanted to know, but hopefully someone else addressed those questions.

I post 3X a week, and rarely look back to see if my comment was responded to. A few bloggers email me with responses, and I do the same.

But, hey I wouldn't worry about my advise....I have very few followers. (And...I love them and would marry them!!!)

I comment in my own comments after someone has left a comment. Sometimes I also comment via email to the person who has left a comment so that they know I read their comment. I'm a commentatious slut is what I am.

But seriously, some prefer to come back and read comments to see if the blogger picked out their commentary as particularly witty or special.

Oh, and sometimes my email comments vary from the actual comment contents in the comments section. So it's always a big guessing game as to what I'd say.

I have several blogs where I go back to see if the author comments or if someone else has said something I particularly joy (or detest). It's part of the community of blogging.

Blogging every day? Sometimes. Sometimes I pre-date my entries and they post themselves. But mostly, I post each day. Sometimes two, three, six, twenty times a day if I'm so inclined.

Santa is real if you BELIEVE.

The sky is blue because I said "pick a damn color already!" and it did.

I sometimes comment back on my own post, but I really don't like to. I'd rather reply to people directly via email. Or both occasionally, if the subject seems worthy enough. I think it helps people who read back through old posts, but geez, for your blog that would be near impossible!

I actually rarely respond via email. If someone says something particularly striking, I will, but usually I just let the comments stand alone. I do make sure to comment on people's blogs who comment on mine though. Many of my readers don't have their email address enabled - although I think it's a good idea too.

And I don't go back and read the author's comments unless I have asked a question. I hardly have time to do the little blog hopping I do now, so I don't usually go back again.

I find posting every day for me to be too often. Posting once a week is better for me, but that means that I can get around to all the other blogs during that time, so I don't feel as though I'm leaving people out.

Colleen - Mommy Always Wins said...

I don't, simply because who reads the replies there? Wordpress has a plugin that allows for the blog owner to reply to the comment on his/her site that also emails that comment back to the commentER. If ever I get my arse in gear and move to WP I'll be adding that pretty baby!

I've always dreamt of winning BIG in the lottery. I surfed the internet for help to win the lottery massively and I was directed to the DR Amber website. I had a chat with him about what I needed and he assured me that his spell will make me become a lottery winner. He got back to me after 3 days with the numbers that I needed to play the lottery and told me to believe in myself. I felt enveloped by the control of the spell. I took his words and played the Mega Millions Lottery. Two days later, I was sent an email that I've won the sum of 107 Million Dollars. I was shocked and couldn't believe what my eyes were seeing. Immediately I was given the cash prize, I stopped working. I want to say a very big thank you to DR Amber for helping people like us who really need help. Now I know that there's absolutely nothing too hard for DR Amber to do. To get in touch with him, email : amberlottotemple@yahoo.com or click his webpage URL___ amberlottotemple.com

The company's initiative to interact with its clients is known as Myconversevisit, as was previously reported. They can learn about their interactions with the company and how the company is perceived in their eyes through this. On the other hand, clients may also get gift cards, which will give them enough savings on their subsequent purchase from the Converse store for any Converse shoe.
