You're 18 years old today.
I am proud of the young woman you are, and I am hopeful and excited about the woman that we can glimpse in the distance.
We laugh, we cry, we scream, we fight, and we don't always see eye to eye.
I've held your hand when your heart was broken; when your knee was ripped open from one side to the other; when you had that CAT scan after the little concussion incident after the hockey game; as you've mustered your courage; and when we've lost our loved ones.
We've laughed over hot sauce; talking rules; tips for anorexics; and "Where's your boyfriend at?".
As Father Time has marched us along, I've loved you with every fiber of my being. When all is said and done, I know that you love me.
I.
Know.
You.
Do.
Now, about that tiny little matter of "body art" you're contemplating......

Happy birthday Sassy!
And as for the body art, whatever you are contiplating, imagine seeing it after it has been there about 40 years. Unlike your 18 year old body, ink is permanent, and no one wants to see a "Tramp Stamp" peeking out over the top of your Depends in the nursing home.
Eek! I keep getting the comment, "I really like the tattoo on the back of the neck, or on the wrist, or ankle". Freaks me out. I swear, offspring is going to be what kills us in the end.
Happy Birthday to an amazing girl!
I will - ahem - take the opposite stance from Scope and say from experience, if it is tasteful and in a place she can cover when she has to - go for the ink!
and I agree with Scope. That's what we keep telling the kids. Picture and old woman with that "hot" tattoo. YEAHHH.
Lovely. You've expressed the sense of achievement one has when the children become adults perfectly.
*Wipes a tear from her eye*

Happpy Birthday, Sassy! How about piercing something instead? Those can come out! Body art or the scars they leave when you remove them are forever!
What is that blog in the water? That's pretty scary stuff. So is 18. (Nice sequeway, no?)
Piercing vs. tats. I'm all for others getting a small tasteful tat done in a place that wont' sag in the future. You don't want to know about the places I've seen piercings. Shudder.
Happy birthday to Sassy.
Eighteen. Wow. Old enough to get that tattoo without your permission...? (It would be, here, but I don't know your laws!)
Happy Birthday Sassy! Put your art somewhere only you can enjoy!
Happy Birthday to her! I hope she reconsiders the tattoo....
Maybe you could both get a tattoo, it could be a mother-daughter fun trip out!
Aw, happy birthday Sassy!
My daughter did the tattoo when she went off to college. What's the big ink allure??
Happy Birthday to Sassy...who sounds just like her Momma when she was 18! I imagine your Momma is looking down from Heaven saying to you.."Job well done!". ♥
Happy Birthday Sassy!
Carefully think about WHERE you want that tattoo....when you're pregnant with your second child you may question your decision.....
How very sweet.
Absolutely wonderful.
Happy Birthday, sweetie! Your mom sure loves you..
Seriously Cheryl everything sags in the future. We told our 18 year old that when he paid all his own bills tatoo and pierce anything he wanted. Until then put that money in his gas tank or on a Dr. bill.
HAPPY 18TH BIRTHDAY SASSY!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sassy- 1st, Happy Birthday! 2nd, think about that tattoo for a year. If you still want the same thing in the same place THEN do it. That was wise advice I read from someone in Guns n Roses when I was 17. I followed it, and I still like what I got. And do get one that can be easily hidden, just in case. (Mine's a sun on the small of my back; I can hide it, it never stretched out w/weight gain, looks cute w/a bathing suit.)
VodkaMom- It might have sounded like I encouraged her, but consider it buying you some time, lol.
Happy Birthday Sassy!
She's going to love that you put a picture of her butt and thighs on your blog. Sometimes we just need to get back a little of our own don't we? I just put a picture up of my son with a shot and a beer in New Orleans. i just know he'll love it. HeeHee!
hahahappy birthday!
so a birthday tat?
Happy Birthday Sassy!
I have a tat on my hip, and it always scares me in the shower because I forget about it...then think a bug is on my butt! Think long and hard, Sassy.

Happy birthday, Sassy! It's my birthday too so you were born on a great day!!!!
(Come see me about that body art...LOL)
Happy birthday!
(I can't say anything about the ink because I sport some myself)
Happy Birthday, Sassy! Both my girls did the tattoo thing, and when my oldest daughter wanted to wear her hair up on her wedding day .... she was unhappy to see that her tattoo was showing. Swore to one and all that she wore her hair down for me. I didn't mind being the scapegoat if it meant I didn't have to look at it while she took her vows.......
Oh NO! No body art! No No No!!!
Whew, sorry. I got a little carried away there.
On a positive note, you got her all the way to 18 without having eaten her.
Happy birthday Sassy. Drop on over to my place for bat tat tuesday before you make any final choices!!
Happy birthday Sassy!
Congrats to you Mom on getting her this far ;)
What, no labels?
Are you too busy, or couldn't you see through the tears any longer?
=-)
My baby is turning NINETEEN this year!!! Wha...? It *does* fly!
=-)
Happy Birthday to Sassy!
My own little girl will turn 18 in July. She, too, wants a tattoo as soon as she is. And she wants me to go with her and get one, too. (I already have one, she doesn't)
I can think of a lot worse things than a tattoo...
Happy Birthday Sassy!!!!
I veto the body art. So,, so! so permanent!!!
happy bday sassy;)
Ok, the tat...I got one at 22...Im now 43, it looks gross, faded and a bit out of sorts, I regret it...just saying;)
Happy Birthday Sassy!!!
Body art? Let's keep it very small, okay?
Happy Birthday, Sassy.
That was too sweet! Happy b'day Sassy!

Happy Birthday Sassy!
Happy Birthday, Sassy. Hope you know how great it is to have a Mom who loves you like this.
And you have done a great job from what I have read here.. good luck tomorrow
Many a teeny, tiny one is some hidden spot..
Congrats on getting another one to that magic 18th birthday. Good luck w/ the tattoo.
Sniff, sniff. They all grow up so fast.....
And happy "birth" day to you! If your child is 18 and you're both marginally intact, do the parents become Master Adults? Or at least get black belt status?
Beautiful post. I can't believe mine will be 18 one day. As for the "body art". I did it at 17. BIGGEST MISTAKE EVERRRRR!
But then, if someone would have told me that then, I would have rolled my eyes at them....LOL!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY to your little one! She'll always be your baby. Crazy how fast they grow up. Mine's not even two yet, and I think that already!
Happy Birthday Sassy! My daughter got a tattoo at 18. Remarkably she had been going through a bad situation and was diagnosed with PTSD and the tat was how she chose to empower herself. On the small of the back and small itself but she will tell you that it was painful!
My mom didn't know I had a tattoo until she saw it as she helped me into my wedding dress on the big day... She said "I KNEW it!" with a shake of her head and has never brought it up again.
Moms are the best.
Heavy sigh.'
They sure grow up fast, don't they...
My daughter recently turned 15, and it still feels like yesterday that I gave birth to her.
