10/21/12

This is why you can't buy a hip replacement kit at the store. (Leave it to the professionals, I guess.)

The most effective, brilliant and perhaps painful way to ensure that you do NOT have pre-surgery jitters the night before hip-replacement surgery?

Walk around for 8 (EIGHT) weeks on said fractured hip and CRUSHED hip joint.  But don’t just walk around on it, receive various forms of physical therapy, go to the gym, hike a bit MORE, unpack and redecorate a NEW CLASSROOM, and teach a pack of amazing first graders on your feet five days a week.

I have never been more excited to be cut wide open than I am at this minute.  And frankly, if someone were to hand me a scalpel I would do it MYSELF RIGHT NOW.

Oh, and by the way, could you all send a shout-out up to God tomorrow morning at 7:45?  I’d appreciate it if the surgeon could have as many angels in his corner as possible.

It certainly can’t hurt.

(I’ll be RIGHT back. p.s.)

I stopped by today to send you good luck wishes on your surgery...and I'm priority mailing all the angels that will fit into the largest flat rate box they make...they should be there by 6:30am.

Do you promise to write posts when you are all loopy on the drugs? I'm looking forward to those :-)

As far as normal...I'm not sure if I'd read the work of someone normal--I won't be able to relate to them.

Make the most of your recovery time, and Pinterest your heart out while you are laid up healing.

I don't know if this will make you laugh or not, but I thought it might be worth a chuckle...

My sister & her husband bought a house north of San Diego to be in a better school district. Their current house was on the market for 5 days before being sold. They had hoped to have it on the market for about a month, leaving them 2 months to do the repairs to their house.
Here's what they thought they'd have to repair: landscaping, termite ten & rat removal, (House was empty for 18 months), removal of some ugly paneling & floating cabinets in one room, and possible replacement of windows.

Luckily, they were able to rent back their current house for a few weeks, leaving them about 9 weeks to do, well, everything in addition to what they had expected...

landscaping (ALL had to be redone), new concrete poured in the back yard because wood decks just invite termites up to your house, half the wiring replaced, 3 walls moved, 2 closets ripped out, 2 bathrooms completely redone, oven & microwave (non functioning) replaced, all plumbing replaced--which is when they realized there was NO insulation, so... all new insulation and then drywall. And the new windows & sliding doors.
Oh, and did I mention they have two young kids??? They have 2 weeks left, and they just finished the drywall this week. I am double crossing my fingers for them!!

I will be thinking of you tomorrow and sending all the angels I can find your way. Looking forward to hearing how it all goes!!

JJ sent me here. I just had a full knee replacement surgery -- and yeah, it hurts a bit. Tip o' the day: follow doc orders and start your PT asap to recover your strength and full range of motion. Recovery can be hard, so be good to yourself!

Best wishes from a fellow traveler!

Hang in there! My mom always said God's way of making women not worried about childbirth was to make them carry a baby for nine months. You just want that thing OUT OF THERE. So, it's sort of like that, right?

As someone who has had her share of surgeries (albeit, not hip replacement), you're going to ROCK it! I'll say a prayer for you, too. And don't forget to do the exercises afterwards! It'll be worth it. : )

Fifty Factor sent me over here to wish you well. Your name came up at a blogger retreat a few weeks ago and I am now glad to have found you so I can follow you too! Best wishes and yes, I'm hoping you will have all the angels surrounding you during this time. Big hugs and kisses to my new friend. :-)

Dear VM: JJ sent me with the express command that I am to make sure that I wish you a speedy, bionic recovery back on your feet and to the keyboard! And, so since I am very afraid of her, (she can be quite mean when no one is looking,) I come here to do just that!

You'll be amazed at how much better life will be after you don't hurt all the time! Here's to you!

Just read Joanna's post about your surgery. It sounds like you are recovering now, and I wish you a speedy one and that you will be stronger than ever when the ordeal is over. I have known a few folks who had the same surgery and they did great, I hope to add your name to that list.
